entrepeneurs and small business owners are meant to be great psychopaths. Living in a fantasy world where everyone has a little psychopath in them, just some people can hide it better than others. Having no conscience is very helpful as you're free to do as you please and most times get away with it.

They say we all wear a social mask, and there's about 10% of your average persons life that they will never share with anyone. Many of us are masking the desire to be a little more extrovert, a little more charismatic, stuff like that but indeed, some of us are masking a deep seated desire to wreak havoc upon the unsuspecting without remorse. So what are you hiding? anyone?

This is what comes to mind when I read your post.

We have a local deli nearby in a little group of shops. This little deli was once the hub of activity and social networking when it was owned and run by the previous owners.. the shelves were stocked, and all in all, the atmosphere was lovely, you could always buy what you needed, at affordable prices, and get some freebies ( lemons or whatever the locals left in the shop) and a bit of general good humor as a parting gift. Well, the current owner has had it for some years now, and the deli is a shadow of its former self.
The new owner, as soon as she/he took over, overcharged, understocked, and could be found 100metres away, sitting at the local in front of a pokie machine.

It's gotten to the point that there are no ( not one) packet of smokes in the shop ever, hardly ever a cake, nor a loaf of bread after 11am.. the shop is sadly down the gurgler... but the owner has never faced that truth that as a smallish community in a small valley, we know what people do, and has had no consience about any of this awful mess, and not being a local has never worried about the status of the valley..
Masking the insanity of it all... Yes definately...

Maybee it's a money laundering operation or a front for a terrorist group. Maybe he's just a psychopath, yet to hatch his dastardly plan . . .

Or makes so much $$$ in the morning that he can sit in the pokies and gamble most of it the rest of the day. Covertly he wants to be extroverted in the outer sense, but hides away behind the 1 armed gambling maching.

Definition of a Psychopath....Psychopathy (/sa?'k?p??i/) is a term which, until the 1980s, formally referred to a personality disorder characterized by the inability to form human attachment and an abnormal lack of empathy, masked by an ability to appear outwardly normal.

As a small business owner I find your post totally offensive. Personally I fail to see the connection between someone who works hard for themselves, and employs other people and a psychopath.

I agree with Shell.

As much as 3% (by study - looking up refs.) of humanity are psycopaths - to says that small business owners are the majority, I think neglects the average bank manager...

Sounds like the me, can't find a single to form an attatchment with that I like.
Business people have long been known to lack empathy for their salary neighbours who pay more tax and earn less like the way some well known billionaires were able to pay less tax than their employees.

Sorry, daggyone, but the term 'psychopath' is so yesterday.

You might want to check in a copy of the DSMIV-TR...you will not find 'psychopath' in the list of mental disorders.

.....

Perhaps it was deleted because too many people might have thought that small business owners were a bunch of axe murderers.

scold If you dont like the wages you earn or the tax you pay, then by all means go and become self employed. Because rest assured if it was so easy, everyone would do it.

Dont forget to wave goodbye to your Workplace Cover (your no longer on wages), your superannuation (provided by your lunatic employer), your holiday pay (thats the no wages again), your leave loading, your sick pay, your bereavement leave, your parenting leave, overtime, and all the rest. Because all those cruel and heartless business owners dont get any of that stuff, and the majority of them work much longer hours than the standard 9-5.

Dont forget that you have to run the risk of your business failing and loosing everything, being stolen from by your employees and customers, having people use your services and then failing to pay you.

Business owners do not get to paid to collect GST for the government, in fact they get fined if they do not submit their paperwork on time. Business owners do claim the cost of their business against their income, so they bloodywell should, you as a wage earner get to claim your tools and job related expenses.

If you want the big tax claims, then I would suggest you do the big spending, rush out now get an ABN and tell your boss that you are going to become a subcontractor, cause I will promise you he will jump for joy !!! Cause it means he no longer has to insure you or pay for all the other wage earner benefits. Dont forget to spend up on your tools, cause you're going to have to provide them now, keep them in good order, and cover the expense of their repair.

Before I get off my soapbox, another bit of advice is ... if you dont like the amount of tax you pay, then ring one of those billionare bosses, and ask who is accountant is. Im sure they'll help you with your tax return.. and get you all the deductions that the $99 guy outside the supermarket misses.

I heard an interview recently that claimed the CIA estimate 10% of world leaders are pyschopaths. True psychopaths are almost impossible to spot of course, but the CIA in this interview claimed there are 2 tell-tale signs of a true psychopath:
1. Usually totally, completely self-absorbed
2. They never stress - they never worry, about anything.

I can relate to no. 2, I'd need a 2nd opinion about no. 1 though.
Sounds a bit like Napolean and Alexander The Great or even G doublya Bush.
