Got the order from the Big Chiefs in Head Office to get off the road today about 10 am, roads flooded all around GC, traffic a mess. Potholes appearing - what do they make roads from these days? Bit of rain and road falls apart? dunno

I'm happy, had to come home the long way round, about 1 km from home and Brisbane Road going north was flooded!! Bummer. thumbs down

Thinking it might be a good idea to go and buy candles, torch, food I can eat cold, bottles for water etc. Fingers crossed it doesn't continue for much longer.

It's been torrential here nearly all day, the road outside my door has water gushing down either side and my front and back lawn is under water.

Hopefully it will ease up overnight.

i think they should seriously start building new homes in flood areas on a pontoon base, that is anchored to the grouind, and when a flood arrives, you release the cables anchoring the house just enough to make the houise rise with the water level, bit like a house boat but on a bigger scale. What gave me that idea was i watched houseboats at lake eildon in the drought, stuck on dry groundand when we got a torrential downpour last year the houseboats rose that quick it was amazing, and they didnt float away as they were tied up with lots of slack rope

After 15 years if little rain, many people have settled into areas that water cathment ares have designated "flood free." Little realising those areas mean only that the rivers will be unlikely to overtop thier banks.

Unfortunately, local drainage networks are only designed to cope with more common rainfalls. Whenever a storm event is more than average, something has to give. If someone wants to build at ground level and more than normal storms occur, where would the water want to go? Easiest path possible. OOOpppssss by many times.

Where I work is a new development underway called "Waterford Rise." Jana Living may have something on the net about it but all I can see is that it will shortly be called "Waterford Cascades." Another development Crystal Waters has been renamed "Crystal Waterfalls" by a lot of residents.

Poor designs by developers (recognised by local Councils but vetoed by the courts and arbitration panels) has permitted unsuitable developments. Some Councils are fighting (a very losing battle) to make things right. BUT there is a limit to what can be done about about it due to State legislation. We are working at it but it does need community support rather than just blaming the local government for being forced to comply with State legislation.

next door to my place is a creek, and 300metres downstream of this dry creek ,the stupid yarra ranges council have allowed a millionaire to subdivide his land into three blocks, right in the path of the creek, which has 100s of thousands of galloons of water cascading down it when it rains heavy.but when you ring them up ,they say no its a dry creek end of story.Someone is lining their pockets on the side.
