sofarsogood74: C'mon Snow. Is disappointing a strong enoough word. Firtsly the man was not elected. He was a distator. Secondly he killed as many as the IRA and tortured many more.

And what about her support for the SA government in the 80's? Nobody mentions that. She considers Mandella a terrorits and the ANC all terorists.

The UK papers today are full of didgy arms deals signed by her that her son Mark made millions being the middle man.

I could go on all day. In my opinion she was not a character to be admired for any reason. I wont call her any manes as others have done. But I certainly wont talk well of her just because she passed away.

Dunno, once the numbers of the O6C's are extrapolated there wouldn't be much difference in the numbers..

In addition, over 40,000 people have been injured, representing almost 3 percent of the population. If we extrapolate these figures to Britain, some 111,000 people would have died, with 1.4 million people injured. This represents just under half of British deaths (265,000) during the Second World War. Further extrapolating the deaths to the United States, some 526,000 would have died, more than died during the Second World War (405,000) and nine times the American war dead in Vietnam.

The large number of incidents underlines the intensity of the conflict, with over 35,000 shooting incidents and nearly 15,000 bomb explosions. Many of these bomb explosions have occurred in Belfast or Londonderry, which were the targets of intense bombing campaigns by the IRA during the 1970s. Such levels of violence, maintained over a long period of time, have inevitably drawn many people into the paramilitary organizations. Estimates of paramilitary membership are difficult to make, but police statistics show that since 1972, over 17,000 people have been charged with terrorist offences, and it is likely that more people in Northern Ireland have participated in illegal paramilitary organizations than at any time since the United Irishmen rising of 1798. Once again, extrapolating these figures to Britain or the US show the intensity of the violence; shooting incidents alone would have numbered over 1 million in Britain, and over 5 million in the United States. Around half a million British people would have been charged with a terrorist offence, and nearly 2.8 million Americans. By any standards, what Ulster people euphemistically call ‘the Troubles’ is, in fact, a war

Glatlol: What does it mean Scribs? Have never heard it before.

Come all ye young rebels, and list while I sing,
For the love of one's country is a terrible thing.
It banishes fear with the speed of a flame,
And it makes us all part of the patriot game.

My name is O'Hanlon, and I've just turned sixteen.
My home is in Monaghan, where I was weaned.
I learned all my life cruel England to blame,
So now I am part of the patriot game.

This Ireland of ours has too long been half free;
Six counties lie under John Bull's tyranny.
But still De Valera is greatly to blame,
For shirking his part in the Patriot game.

They told me how Connolly was shot in his chair,
His wounds from the fighting all bloody and bare.
His fine body twisted, all battered and lame,
They soon made me part of the patriot game.

It's nearly two years since I wandered away,
With the local battalion of the bold IRA,
I've read of our heroes, and I wanted the same,
To play out my part in the patriot game.
[extra verse I found]
I don't mind a bit if I shoot down police,
They are lackeys for war never guardians of peace,
And yet at deserters I'm never let aim,
The rebels who sold out the patriot game.

And now as I lie (or: die) here, my body all holes (or: holed),
I think of those traitors who bargained in souls,
And I wish that my (air) rifle had given the same,
To those Quislings who sold out the patriot game.

Quisling's= SF/PRM (provisional republican movement)

Finally, what did she do for the Irish?...she strengthened the resolve of democratic Ireland to stand up to the vile bullying of terrorist Ireland, and in that she did us all a favour.

Bollicks. Ireland isn't democratic (once you scratch the surface). It's owned by bond holders and hedge fund managers. Now they're real terrorist's. Why didn't the Irish stand up to terrorist's in suit's snowy . Nope, the Irish bent over took one for the team and most people will be porked for years, so much for your Irish resolve to stand up to terrorists.

Phoenix you must be insane if you think these people - dissident republicans - have anything to do with Tone, McCracken ext.

No point in arguing with him. His view of what is acceptable is warped. And he bangs on everyday about how the "Brits" are awful. But he does it from his home in the UK.laugh

Would you please learn your facts before you make a bland statement like that..Stop listening to all the biased news and think for yourself..The whole idea of the Anglo Irish agreement was to stop the rise of popularity of Sinn Fein in elections..The SDLP were worried that their vote was waining and by trying to ostracise Sinn Fein , which the agreement was about then they thought they could have the norm.what happened in fact was the complete opp of what they set about to do..The Unionist felt betrayed and remember Paisley shouting NEVER , NEVER, NEVER at Belfast city hall..That agreement polarised the two communities and Thatcher admitted after that it was a mistake to anger the Paisleyites..!! So in actual fact it achieved absoloutly nothing..!! The Good Friday agreement on the other (which she had nothing to do with) hand eventually united both communities as seen by the huge vote for the agreement..So my illinformed quizling would you please learn the facts before you make those stupid statements and explore the facts for yourself and you might develope a brain for yourself..!!

No. I wont. But I will call you a hypocrite. You bang on about how bad the "Brits" are every day,.yawn

But where do you live? Who housed you? Who is paying for your course? Who pays for your Giro? All the British Tax payer.roll eyes

If you feel so Irish and hate the "Brits" so much why do you live there? And not here? And I would put any money on you having a British Passport too as claiming your benefits over there would be easier with it.roll eyes

I never thought I'd see the day that I'd have to rely on satire to accurately portray history. The BBC and RTE are purely establishment propaganda machines. Thank God for Channel 4.

The term 'dissident republican' is the widely accepted term in this country to refer to those republicans who don't accept the Good Friday Agreement, such as RIRA, CIRA, ONH, and now the NIRA.

They themselves don't accept the word dissident but that is the name by which they are known.
