Ding Dong! The Witch is dead!

It seems this is how a lot of "ENGLISH" people feel.

Says it all really!

Why should we care? Would English people care enough to talk about
Garrett Fitzgerald for instance? confused
I felt more sad when ol' JR died (Larry Hagman)

I personally feel good riddance to rubbish.

I'll be saying the same when Comrade Gilmore and his bunch of clowns from the left are destroyed at the next general election here. They were voted in to protect the vulnerable in this country and they have attacked them at every opportunity. The only thing they seem to be worried about is the public sector unions and protecting the pay of these people. At least with Thatcher, you knew what her policies were and they brought growth. Gilmore and co. are just bowing to powerful un-elected lobbies in Europe and at home. I doubt Thatcher would have bowed so easily.

I suggest we scrap our current system and adopt a strictly co-op like system which has proven it's success with many a company, nobodies in charge but everybodies in charge, shur what are we electing at present only a King and his loyal followers, what the king says, goes.

It is indeed good to be the king.

Direct democracy/pure democracy, sure it's not perfect but it's a better system of governance than having so called elected representatives bound by the party whip.

Representative democracy only works when political parties represent the people place their needs above the party, banks or the EU.

Case in point Pat Rabbitte and his comments about lying to get elected and Labour abandoning their mandate from the people who elected them.

microherd: I'm not sure I follow, Statism is where the state basically has control of our affairs which is what we have now.
Direct or pure democracy would put all the major decisions into the hands of the people with a referendum and out of the hands of the political parties.

You are right on Statism. It's where the state gets to boss us about and steal our money by using the threat of violence or imprisonment. Democracy, of any kind, is just the way we select the members of the State gang.

If you think you can elect 'good people' to the State jobs and they will somehow turn it from a criminal conspiracy into a benign organisation that will help us then try starting with something smaller. How about joining some of the criminal gangs and turning them into charities? A criminal gang is a criminal gang and will never change. As Confucious said, the beginning of wisdom is naming something correctly.

Some info for all the Irish people on these threads that admired the woman. This was in todays Indo.

PETER MANDELSTON said today that the only thing Baroness Thatcher ever told him was that the Irish were "all liars" and not to be trusted.

"It was the day I was appointed Northern Ireland secretary and our paths crossed.

"She came up to me and she said, 'I've got one thing to say to you, my boy ... you can't trust the Irish, they are all liars', she said, 'liars, and that's what you have to remember, so just don't forget it'.

"With that she waltzed off and that was my only personal exposure to her."

My point is she called the whole nation liars. Is that not a slightly xenophobic statement.

Can I say something Snow. I think just like Phoenix has blinkers on when it comes to the scum that call themselves Republicans I think you may be blinkered in another way.

You agreed with Mickyscouse about Karma for Boston being something that sprang to mind but you ignore all the comments referring to how the British Empire was built and what may have been considered Karma for that. Also with Maggie you seem slightly blinkered too.dunno

Of course she was xenophobic! she didn't like anyone....no reason to take it personally. If an English person was insulted by a French leader they would just laugh and say 'that's the French', I think we should do the same.
Plenty of reasons not to admire her but I don't think that was one of them.

As for Mickey's comments, I thought they were wrong, his concern should just have been with the victims but I can kind of understand what he said. I'm sure there are Boston people who were outraged over the bombing but had given money in the past to the IRA. I don't think there is anyone living in the UK though who thought the British Empire was a great thing...except maybe the major who lived in the hotel in Fawlty Towers!

I don't think so. A member of her cabinet with Irish roots said in the Documentary about her that she was very ignorant when it came to Ireland and most of the cabinet disagreed with her views on the Irish. But he stopped short of saying what those views were.

snowlynx: I don't think Mickey's to blame for the sins of the British Empire though!!

And the people who dies or were injured in Boston are not to blame for the sins of other Bostonians in the 70's, 80,s and 90's. So how can it be Karma?

I don't think it was Karma at all!
I'm just saying that it was a bit ironic for bostonians who gave money to the IRA to be shocked at what happened, that's all.

But of course you'll be shocked when a bomb explodes in your city. And you're talking like 100% of the people in Boston funded the IRA. Plenty of their money came from here too and I bet people here were shocked when bombs went off in Dublin and Monaghan.

All I am saying is it was very hypocritical to play the Karma card. Karma works both ways. So if a bomb going off in Boston could be considered Karma for a tiny % giving money to the IRA surely a bomb going off in London could be considered as Karma for all the atrocities committed by the British Empire in the past.dunno

But that seems to escape yours and Mickys blinkers.
