Some 14 years ago I was employed by the State Government doing Child protection and youth justice. I had a major episode of crash and burn, and ended up on a Vet Affairs Pension. That will see me through what time I have left.

There is a long standing joke about drivers in the Railways, Merri... Their job dockets are swapped so much that no-one knows exactly who drives which train.

Oh.. well, all I can say is.. the train drivers must be having a right laugh here in Adelaide..

They are still working on the electrification process, and the trains are either late, or not running because the heat is buckling the lines..

not much chop for us commuters tho.. we never know til we get to the station whether a train will rock up or not... blues

Merri it isnt alot different in part of Melbourne suburbs either with underpass going in at Mitcham meaning two lines have to use buses around it and on the west side state rail line changes are taking out another line with buses running between points.
Have a funny feeling that the lines might buckle in Melbourbe this weeks as well.
Glad I only live 5 minutes from work

IF the tracks were buckling, it would not be a laugh for the drivers. Buckling can and does cause derailment.

There is a standard, once the temperature hits 36C , then the trains must be slowed...in case of buckling.

I am guessing they are updating the infrastructure in your area, Merri... Which is difficult if they are trying to run a full service as well. In the long term, this will be an improvement.

They aren't necessarily stealing the wire while they are high. And they aren't necessarily feral kids. People who steal part of railway infrastructure can often be previous employees, or someone on a get rich scheme. ( Or a get dead scheme... as it's a dangerous 'occupation')

As for who is responsible for damaging infrastructure, if they are found, they are charged. Same as with graffiti. There is a no tolerance response to either. Unfortunately, often people believe railways are the government and they can afford whatever they do. They forget there are many people using the system that rely on it...and inevitably someone pays for their behaviour.

Abagail: They aren't necessarily stealing the wire while they are high. Actually the wires are necessarily mounted up high, so YES they are high while in the act of removing wire And they aren't necessarily feral kids Some are Feral Adults. As for who is responsible for damaging infrastructure, if they are found (happens rarely), they are charged. And if found guilty, slapped on the wrist - hard! Same as with graffiti. There is a no tolerance response to either. Unfortunately, often people believe railways are the government and they can afford whatever they do. They forget More likely they remember, but don't care there are many people using the system that rely on it...and inevitably someone pays for their behaviour.

The track was dug up in a Regional area recently looking for copper wire, which indicates it's not always high up.

I agree that there are feral adults. It's hard to argue that.

While you think that finding people who damage infrastructure is rare, the truth is... with the use of cameras...The captures are becoming more common. In fact, there is no longer a slap on the wrist mentality ... these days it comes with a conviction.

I know, I was just trying to stir you up Abbie. laugh Lookin' was just joking and I took it upon myself to stir you up since Lookin' seems to have abandoned his 2nd job for the moment. I'm sure his trucking company would take a dim view of that sort of dereliction of duty.

Sorry was bunny hopping in between sites........

Right Obsy professor (i think) confused laugh

Guess i should've said feral adults as well. Many moons ago when i lived in a suburb before the one i'm in now, i used to catch the train to work. Everytime the theiving bar studs knocked off the copper it would put a stop to the trains.

So many of us crammed onto buses and me being the gentleman that i am grin i always gave up my seat for the elderly easter bonnet nerd

Apart from getting told off from boss for being late everytime theives took copper i also had sore feet/legs from standing up and bouncing around in the not so comfy buses back then.crazy

When the local paper came out after thefts it was said "young offenders" so i took it as kids dunno .... suppose could've been young men/women dunno .... sorry about that sad flower

Can happen in country areas but not with concrete sleepers.
