I consider 'my area'to be 100km north x 100km south x 100 km west. (can't go east, thats the Pacific ocean.) That's an area of 20,000 km2, bigger than Northern Ireland. Number of women in this area? 0, zero, zip, zilch!
CS tells me there are other women in my "area".eg. Brisbane=1100km away, Sydney=1700km away, Melbourne=2300km away, Adelaide= 2700km away and Perth=4000+km away. Anyone else looking to date someone in "your area" this size? doh

Well, I haven't checked out your profile, but my experience is that this site is more of an international introduction rather than local. For local, you might want to try some other site such as POF or the like.

I found a few local women on some of the paid for sites, but to be honest, I had enough of the 'local' women. I wanted a woman with a different attitude to relationship. So I went where I was wanted, as have and as are thousands of other Aussie blokes.

It may have been easier to find a local girl..... but that is just speculation.

Anna and I are very happy together, and I have met a lot of international friends through this site (as well as my wife).

In my local area there was similar results to what you speak of even though I'm just an hour away from Brisbane city. But then again, I haven't really done a search for local girls since I have been in a permanent relationship for almost 3 years now.

Good luck with your 'local' search. You may have to venture a little further afield.

Cheers.

G'day HalvO. Nice to see you're still on the forums. Have tried the International thing, in fact have been in an online relationship for the past 6 months with a Filipina lady who is in the aged care industry and currently working in Hong Kong. Despite having qualifications and a clean criminal record Immigration will not grant her a visa to come here. Typical bureaucrats! I am not in the best of health, suffering from low blood pressure (among other things) but because I can shower and clothe myself unaided I don't meet the necessary requirements for a full time carer. (Check 'em out. Anyone who actually meets these requirements belongs in a nursing home.) I'm not ready for that by a long chalk! Under the UN Human Rights charter I am entitled to marry any lady of my choice (of any nationality.) Seems the bureaucrats think otherwise. Clear case of racial discrimination, but there appears nothing I can do about it. They sit there in their little ivory towers playing God and telling me it's all in my best interest! At 70 years of age I think I know what's in my best interest, I'll back my judgement against theirs any day! Seems I will need to check out NZ. (Hi Berry, you available?) Don't see too many Kiwis being refused visas. My original post referred to what could reasonably be classed as an "area". To suggest said area extends from Cairns to Perth is way over the top.Like suggesting to a Bostonian that more matches may be found in Miami! Long drive just to have dinner!
Was nice getting your input. Hope things keep going well for you and Anna.handshake

Thanks for the tip mate. NZ was an option I hadn't even considered. Will run it past my girl when we talk on Skype Sunday. Would she need NZ citizenship before applying for a visa? If it works, you'll be the first guest on the wedding invitation list. handshake beer beer

Ger, size is relative ( no double entendre intended)

Australia is huge, and relatively underpopulated , so is difficult to meet people unless you live in a large city.

A distance you would consider a short trip in Oz, would be considered a difficulty over here.

As I say, all relative.

I think I'll extend my area from 100km to 150km. That way it will include Port Drugless which is full of really attractive people who are gagging for it, and Tully which is full of meth heads who are always looking to make a dollar. Win win.

I see. I know how you feel. Many developed countries like Aussie, and the United States are quite tough with laws and regulations on bringing a bride from overseas. Have you consider MOVING to her country and live there? Perhaps your dollars go farther than some other countries meaning its cheaper to live there than here depending on where you are and where you would live. Say, I am in love with a Filipina, I would move there and marry her and stay there than in the United States since its cheaper to live in the Phils and depends on where as well because of conditions there compared to where I live in the US.

So, give that a try by considering relocating. I am considering relocating. I LOVE tropical islands! Tired of snow! BRRR!

From what I heard about Aussies this area is even too small for one person. More than 2 people per hundred thousand square kilometres is a crowd, according to Aussie standards according to what I heard.

You heard about the two Aussies who kept on stepping on each other's toes every morning on their walkabouts? Poor souls, they had to share 30583l58 hectares of sand land.

You heard about the two Aussies who wanted to form a government? They could not hold an election because nobody could count that high to read all ballots.

ETC.

A woman in Perth with titties that're perth would be preferrable over Adele with AID in Adelaide. A Brisk Dame in Brisbane would be preferrable over a malborne woman from Melbourne.

Choose your weapons and your women wisely. They can all backfire if you are not used to handling the kind you pick. A woman from Darwin will never evolve, and a woman called Sidney from Sidney is very likely a drag.

The limitation is quite difficult if you limit geographical distance. It does not work in modern times. Pre-1990s it did work.

I learned in family genealogy that in pre-automobile era, many spouses are found usually in the same town, actually right cross the street or next door farm. For non-farming, they met and marry in college or their workforce or even in same one-room schools.

With the advance of automobiles, people who were in high schools, college... they marry. In 1950's most girls at age 17-19 get married when they graduated from high school. But before that, young as 13 did get married.

My grandmother was 16 when she married a 23--my grandfather. It was legal back then in 1929 (married day before Stock market crash!)

By 1960's thanks to new advance commercial jets, mail order catalogs with brides... and thanks to mid-century military bases worldwide, Americans were able to get an oversea bride.

By mid-1990s with the internet, dating was easier globally without having to leave home until you fly over and meet her and marry her.

So, take advantage of that. If it is because of limit budget that you are unable to travel far, then try locally.

BUT for locally, internet is not good idea. People on the net prefer to find someone farther away. For local as I experiment that it seems best to do something in person. For instance: you go out to singles dances, join a singles club or group. They have activities. If you have a child, go join single parents group. If you have a specific interest you are so much interested in. Say, you are a Star Wars fan, go to comic cons, or find a local fan club. If you like rugby, attend the games and you will never know. Bars and taverns--no no. Not a good spot to find someone. Usually they are for different reason.

I go to trade shows and that is how I can meet the ladies. Networking yourself without exposing yourself that you are really looking for someone can really works well. Women like men who are not there looking for someone. They want to see the real you having fun out there. So, go out and have fun locally and you will never know.
