I was at work and we all went outdoors for 15 minutes stretches to take turns watching it with special lenses! It was awesome!!!!peace

I will leave you to find those answers. This is a thread for individuals to share their experiences when they are in the path.

This one on Monday was the first visible in the mainland USA since 1979 or thereabouts, and it was total. So one must be in the right place at the right time. Such luck!applause

I imagine levels of interest vary.professor

I was at a little past 99% and it was really clear out. I brought my sister a pair of glasses so she could watch it. So she, I and her boyfriend watched it and took a few picture of each other with the funny glasses. It was interesting how it dropped over 10 degrees for that few minutes when the light was obscured and the shadows had a very different effect as though the whole world around us had been dumped into some paintshop computer app. The other thing I noticed was the way people acted. Also there were some Owls that were out of sync and we are not used to seeing them so that was a bit strange. Since it was a Monday it almost seems like it set the climate for the week so far and it has just been very strange week so far.. not bad.. but noticeable. Glad you enjoyed it Felix! thumbs up

It really is amazing too see how even a few minutes of an eclipse has these effects. It makes me wonder what a entire hour of darkness in mid day would work..... conversing

Bogart_1960: Why is this eclipse so special? It happens every 18 months,,,,

It was special because it was a solar eclipse, meaning the moon covered the sun completely.

That hasn't happened for 99 years.

It will happen again on April 8, 2024.

It will start in Texas and move diagonally north through Ohio, New York and up to the New England states.

The eclipse that happens every few years is either a solar eclipse or a lunar eclipse. Google will explain the difference.

Pure marketing . that was all about !
(product selling)

regarding where is US, the world is "just a big bigger, and is not flat !

.Btw, take notes:: ( solar eclipse (as seen from the planet Earth) occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, and when the Moon fully or partially blocks ("occults") the Sun

1- There are between 2 and 5 solar eclipses every year, each one visible only in a limited area (google and find)

2. 21st century,- there will be 224 solar eclipses of which 77 will be partial, 72 will be annular, 68 will be total and 7 will be hybrids between total and annular eclipses.

3. List of solar eclipses in the 20th century: . During the period 1901 to 2000 there were 228 solar eclipses of which 78 were partial, 73 were annular (two non-central), 71 were total (three non-central) and 6 were hybrids. The greatest number of eclipses in one year was five, in 1935, and one month, July 2000, had two eclipses.

It has actually been known that the Earth was round since the time of the ancient times, but it looks like is going flat ... in US !

just a quick reminder [as I have already mentioned that this thread is for sharing of experiences only.] Arguing, or baiting arguments is not acceptable. And being off topic is not appreciated.

Please create your own thread if you wish a more general discussion of earth science, or debate of the topic of eclipse. Again this thread is to share experiences from the recent total eclipse of the sun on 8/21/2017. Thank you.handshake

it was interesting. it did not become totally dark. That says a lot for how bright the sun really is when you consider that it was mostly [and for a little while completely] covered!!wave
