Are you yourself aware of it?
Do you seek out palm oil free products?
Or... you don´t care?
I do a fair bit of shopping in a food retailer here in Ireland called 'iceland', they are a frozen food outlet, they have gone down the route of selling all products free from palm oil, also, they had a terrific Christmas TV advert that was pulled by the television companies for being as they put it, against advertising standards....shameful... To answer the rest of your question, I do seek out palm oil free products, and I prefer to buy loose products (fruit/meat/fish) and avoid plastic and non recyclable materials...

Wow! They sell all products free from palm oil! You mean only in Iceland? Or does that apply to other retailers in Ireland?
I am glad to see that some people are aware of the dangers and are looking after the environment.

It's the same with soya products.
It's difficult, the letters on products are usually so small, that they're hard to read. I've been vegetarian for 10 years, in my country it was a disaster, in the UK they have a green circle and a white V in it, with the announcement that it's vegetarian. But most vegetarian products you can use instead of meat are made from soya.
I think that products should have good signs, glutenfree, soyaoil and palmoil free etc. Now there are also people allergic for nuts, so often I can read that stuff can contain nuts. Even if I buy some nuts, the package says: this product may contain traces of nuts.
It's not the customers that should be aware, but the supermarkets. They have to say: No plastics, no things that are bad for the environment, just don't sell it, then the factories won't produce it.
So if there are people owning a supermarket here, take your responsibillity. It's so stupid I can't even buy a cucumber not wrapped in plastic in the supermarket...

I agree with all what you´re saying here!
Yeah.... reading the small prints...even with glasses..
"Gluten free" and "lactose free" is now written in big letters at the front. But the rest you have to find out by reading the list of ingredients.

I've been aware of the problem for years in fact while I don't make a habit of reading labels I have written to McKee Foods, makers of Little Debbie cake products. I especially implored them to find a substitute oil for their Streusel cakes which are a major favorite of mine. They have unfortunately pulled the product from production so in a way I shot myself in the foot. In my opinion Palm oil is not the problem, the problem is GREED! The same can be said for Beef, you can't blame Beef for the ongoing destruction of the Brazilian rain forest. There again it's the pursuit of the Almighty Dollar which drives the destruction of these forests. I applaud you Daniela for making the effort to alert people around the globe to this problem.

One of the biggest destroyers of the rainforrest are Burger King and McDonalds, Time to boycot them.
I think the food of McD is tasteless and filthy, in my area there's no Burgerking. Of course their food is also unhealthy. And they are like everywhere in the world. If everyone starts boycotting them there's hope.

It´s a really sad story... whatever we do, we never seem to be able to win.
I realise that the problem is GREED! Same as killing mother orangutans so they can sell the babies as pets (an average of 10 for one baby!). Elephant tasks... how many elephants have to be killed in order to satisfy some rich man having ivory for decoration in their living room?
I am sure that many people are aware Ooby, but... they prefer to continue wearing blinkers as it is not directly affecting them.

Tulefell: I cook myself from scratch and don't use palm oil in my cooking. I very seldom buy sweets, like cakes and cookies and the like.
I do read labels on cosmetic and hygienic products, but most for sulphates and parabens sake; from now on will pay attention to palm oil as well.
Thanks for spreading awareness!
Parabens have been banned in Europe so there's no need to check for those anymore.
Espartame is the one you need to worry about as it is disguised under a ref no. E..
Palm oil is not banned as it is not harmful for health. It's up to the people if they care for the rain forests or not...and the survival of orangutans ?
