Bachelor's Day is an Irish tradition on Leap Day allowing women to initiate dances and propose marriage. If the proposal was refused the man was expected to buy the woman a silk gown or, by the mid-20th century, a fur coat. The tradition is supposed to originate from a deal that Saint Bridget struck with Saint Patrick.irish

St Bridget was born about 20 years after St Patrick had died, so no deal could have been struck.

I, or I'm sure no other Irish person, has ever heard of Batchelor's Day, and certainly do not want any animals to die to create a fur coat for any reason.

It seemed a nice story, and no animals have died in the making of this thread, I must admit noone has asked me to marry them, maybe someone kissed the blarny stone.

What does travelling extensively have to do with the ages of your children?

It was you who mentioned the children first.

As for the croat, I presumed you had her in mind when talking about women proposing to their boyfriend.
Maybe a cyber-hint.
