Aruena: That's all very nice until those individual differences don't start to endanger or limit or are forced upon others.

Someone's religious belief might be to convert everyone into their faith, for example. That means that the person does not respect other people's choices. When you are confronted with that person - what will you do? Accept their beliefs or protect your own?

Things aren't that simple...
Excuse me if I jump in here, there are some people on here who support the policy of appeasement, I say you must fight for your way of life.

Sorry for interrupting.

rohaan: So right...I see so many people who say they embrace the differences, yet seem to also pick things apart it’s a conundrum of life, I guess..
Some differences are very hard to accept and some are impossible to accept.

This is an extreme example, but psychopaths are also unique individuals. Yet, the society thinks that it is more important to protect itself (and its other members) by locking them into institutions or prisons or trying to keep them under control with medications. Everyone is aware that they are born that way, but still...

When people feel endangered and scared - their capability to accept differences is shrinking. That's why it is so easy to create a conflict or war - all you need is FEAR.

We are survivors, aren’t we?wink Always love your sage rhetoric. How come you so schmart? Ha ha...you know, I’m not a “ parader”, “ protester”, etc... but it’s rather curious how the gay movement has metamorphosed from being completely off- limits to even discuss, let alone in any shape or form “ acceptable”, to being, now, downright chic. It may interest some to know that I actually don’t like the current (U.S.) trend to squelch the beliefs of those who believe it is wrong or “ bad”. We are a free nation, and precluding acts of violence and/ or cruelty, the citizens have a right to their beliefs and opinions, and to state them or write them, publicly. It is inconsistent for gay people to want/ demand their right to be heard, yet want to disallow that in others. Above all, the rights for all must be defended. Appropriately.

I try to choose 'the middle way' as much as I can. From the middle you can observe either side more clearly, and hopefully learn from both of them. Being stuck or entrenched in your views or outlook is very constricting and restricts growth imo.

Vive la différence

TheDino1: Do you embrace it, or are you in the "Us and Them" camp?
I do have my own camp with people that I like to spend time with. My circle of acquaintances has gotten smaller and I'm perfectly fine with that.

I most definitely enjoy the company and opinions of well travelled and open minded people, no matter where they are from. wave
