Well we usually have to compromise one for the other because beauty is power and we know what power is like. You could get by on looks alone particularly if you care immensely for your own appearance but prefer to hang around ugly mates to look even better by comparison. All power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. To say anything no matter how terrible and be met with a wee simp boy likes this. Inner beauty never stands a chance really, if you're approved of anyway all the time

Having said that there are exceptions to the corruption of power when the power is young and by that I mean the power is new to you. A fat girl who has lost a lot of weight is the character of a fat girl in a slim girls body. The power works for a bit in the hands of those who at one time experienced the worst of life.
And I would compare the fat girl who lost a lot of weight to the greatest generation and the post-war consensus. Why so moral, Grandad? Because he tore himself from nothing and went on to build a kindlier world thanks to a life that showed him none. The integrity, the selflessness could actually work for a bit.
