trish123: the only cure darling is a bit of time and a few more of lifes harsh lessons - but you will get there eventually, believe me - just dont lose heart cos the road can be long - figure the shortest route fom A to Z and you have it all sorted

Only time can cure a broken heart. Some relationships are harder to get over than others. The general "rule" is that it takes as long as you were with them to get over them. This isn't always true of course. The best thing to do is to not be alone. Surround yourself with friends and family as much as you can and don't beat yourself up. Analyzing what went wrong will only make it worse. You probably didn't do anything wrong, people just grow apart sometimes.

You may not feel like it, but dating someone new will definitely help. Don't rush into anything, just see what's out there. A new interest or interests can keep your mind off your ex. I think having a broken heart is a lot like someone you love dying...they're suddenly not in your life anymore and you most likely don't see or talk to them, much like death. It's one of the worst feelings in the world...but it's not the end of the world either. I know it feels like it now but I promise it will get better. One day you will say "what did I ever see in them anyway?"

Get ready..you got to kiss a lot of frogs to find that prince. I am a year out from an 8 year relationship and I still miss him. But when I see him and he opens his mouth ..I remember why I left him..rolling on the floor laughing

Think about him, enjoy the love you shared. Remember that fondly and often, and if you need a sob, have one.

Acceptance

Accept the current stituation, the past leading up to this point, your part in it, his part in it, all of it. Just accept it, learn from it, and try to move on comfort

SWFinMA30: Well ,I broke up with the guy I was with for 4 years about 5 months ago.
I will admit I still love him ,but realize that I broke up with him for a reason.

Ask yourself why you broke up.
What good/bad did he really bring to your life?
What do you really need for you to be happy in a relationship?
Did he really bring those things?

I asked myself the same before breaking up with him ,and it helped me to do
what I had to do........and break up with him.

Now I am searching for a guy who is his polar opposite...........

Hope this helps

That's good. - no excellent to think about.

Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket - safe, dark, motionless, airless - it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.
