Harleyquinn: OK
Let's make AND keep ALL drugs illegal!!!
Of course this includes the 2 very dangerous drugs.. alcohol & tobacco. Now let the screams & squealing commence.
SHANTI
Of course tobaco and alcohol are drugs too. Take alcohol away, as was done during the prohibitions, and the problem became worse. Crime for one thing. (Mafia etc.) Cigarettes are bad too but at least here, now that second hand smoke, is finally being recognized as bad for those who around smokers, mainly hurt the smoker himself..
".....when drugs are made legal they cease to be glamourized...." This could not be further from the truth. If it is legal, it will be advertised with gorgeous looking people living what appear to be sophisticated lives. Even if you eliminate advertising, corporations will find a way. Look at Camel cigarettes - clearly targeted at young people and children.
And unless you are talking about legalization without age limits, it will still be illegal for minors to purchase.
HG, I'm sure your intentions are good, I just believe you are buying into stories provided by misinformed or disingenuous people.
hollandgirl: Of course I know who doesn't. I have seen a lot of it on TV etc, and it is not pretty. You are cleary missing the point I am trying to make.

trish123: I am Conrad and I have done a lot of illegal substances in my time - for about 6 months once I even got into Herion - that was the pits I might add and took all of my will power to get away from - that made me realise though just how difficult it is for some to escape the clutches of addiction - I have also immersed myself in amphetamines from time to time too - but all that is behind me now and I was one of the lucky ones who lived to tell the tale, this I do realise.
I never had a problem with the herb though and have used it advantageously for close to 40 yrs.......... at the age of 50 I undertook a degree and having a smoke to get some of those essays done saved me and helped no end in times of self doubt - its about using the drug as opposed to having it use you.........
One of the legal ones killed my daughter though - alcohol is a killer and it is legally pushed and promoted - seems to me that there are false standards going on somewhere............ look at the pressure that tobacco smoking puts on our health systems too......
Could this be so because governments make a lot of money on alcohol and tobacco. Criminals, drug dealers and those making drugs, are the ones making the money here. ???

I dont hear any alternative suggestions from the 'no brigade' Where do you suggest we go from here? The 'war on drugs' has been raging for decades, to what avail? Surely it is time to, at least look at more radical solutions.
eyesthatknowwhy: I have been following this post very carefully and reading in depth what everyone has to say. First, Holland, seems to me that there is the existance of a whole lot of back peddling on your behalf. Secondly, I don't care who knows, but this whole subject brings out the mamma grizzley bear in me. I have seen addiction and witnessed all of its affects first hand, in my personal and professional life. Watching in on tv or reading about it is not KNOWING it. Sorry, but that is the truth, take it or leave it. We cannot turn back time and right the wrongs of soceity. Hence, yes we have alcohol and tobacco. Doesn't mean we say What the f*ck, lets just open the doors - can't get any worse - YES IT CAN!!!! Seems to me that a whole lot of people are self defeaters and have already decided that there is no way to go but down. I, on the other have the attitude and belief that things can get better. Addiction is our society, yes, very real. Why, don't know. In no way, shape or form do I presscribe to the holier than thou attitude. I have dabbled with several substances in my life, I am lucky and healthy enough to not have an addictive personality or psyche many others are not so fortunate and that has to be taken into consideration. I do know that the strength of cannibis products present day is tremendously more than it every has been and has been linked in several studies to be very apt to cause psychosis. For those that choose the route of self medication, regardless with what - good for you...glad it works. I have been very successful in my educations quests and did it with out any mind altering substances. And I am proud of that. One can get through life in reasonably safe and successful fashion without have to succumb to the need to alter your state of consciousness...ALL THE HELL GOING ON IN OUR PRESENT DAY WORLD, AND THIS IS CONSIDERED TO BE AN VIABLE OPTION TO MAKE SOCIETY HEALTHIER AND MORE PRODUCTIVE? BEAM ME THE F*CK UP SCOTTY!!!
Me too and I have been succesfull 'despite' my earlier influences and addictive personality - you dont need to write people off because they make different decisions in life to you - we all need embracing from time time time - people seem to forget this.........
hollandgirl: You have to read and study ALL the facts.
youtube; Should all drugs be made legal" or Google it, can tell you much better than what I am able to say about it.
All I do now is repeat myself.
Guess what? I have read and STUDIED all the facts, apparently ones you have chosen to not include in your indepth research....I have chosen, very carefully, after thorough research and investigation, when I was in university about 8 or so years ago, to believe the facts that I do. Fo crying out loud, there are many sites on many different subjects, doesn't mean they are all correct - Perhaps, I could suggest to you to continue your research and studies on this subject and talk to respected professionals from both sides and those who have been immersed in the world of addiction - then make an educated guess and solidify your opinion. Rule of a good thesis - say what you want - just back it up with material that can be proven credible and EVIDENCE. You may have your opinion, that is why we live where we live, why my family members fought wars. But, I can assure you that 1 effing day in my life a few years ago and you would have a very different opinion.
Christ, why not make everything legal then we can all be emphysemic alcoholic, pot/crack heads!
Look, I've already responded to this post saying that I really don't know whether some or all drugs should be legalised. I do know that I'm a smoker, and I really wish I weren't. I drink, not to excess, but I really wish it wasn't so readily available and acceptable given the alcohol problems young people are facing nowadays.
From the little I know, pot is useful in alleviating pain in certain afflictions and is prescribed by some doctors, albeit illegally. If I was offered something to ease pain then I would take it, but please don't offer me or anybody else something which can kill me 10 years before I should naturally close my eyes and go to sleep. I already know that smoking is going to knock some years from my life if I don't stop soon.
I believe that smoking pot is no more harmful than cigarettes, but I choose not to smoke it because I smoke cigarettes and therefore I have somewhat of an addictive personality. I also believe that smoking pot is detrimental to the health in the long run so don't add one more thing to the list of morally or legally acceptable drugs.
I tried it once and I was ill. Partly because I had been drinking a little, partly because I had been smoking cigarettes. Nasty combination so it can't be all good can it?

I can back that one up - I just finished university a couple of months ago - evidence is that I got my BA - as a pot smoker of close on 40 yrs
hollandgirl: Should drugs, ALL drugs be free for everyone?.................
The war on drugs has been lost a loooong time ago. You read about the large catch the cops make at times. Much ado it made about it. The truth is; Not even 10% is confiscated. Think how many people would lose their job alone in the police forse already.
How much crime would be elliminated, job lose for many there too, judges, jailhouse keepers etc. etc? Anything that is iligal has more of an attraction, would it be so when you can get drugs free and anytime, anywhere?
my congrats sister, you manged to get TOP audium here...see it wasn t that difficult to wake them all up...just provoke a bit and up they roar. Hope you won t miss me as I prefer to be on our native people´s sites...here it s kind of boring...except your threads. Hugs and many blessings to all of you

I think that was the suggestion...to make all drugs legal. But like you said Jan, "from what little you know"
by the way you guys, Im schizophrenic and thats why I smoke. and there are people that smoke weed all their life and are still alive. but weed didnt harm anybody. and alchohol killed my mother also. so how about making drinking illegal. alcohol has killed my mother, and my good friend bo. So maybe once people start focusing thier attention on how much more dangerous alchohol is than weed, then maybe this debate wouldnt seem so ridiculous.

And maybe you'll learn, that with this Background you have a Unique chance for Addiction!!! But as you say,It's Your Call!

And I think you have misunderstood my post.
Yes, from what little I know, not being a pot smoker personally. However my two brothers are and have been for over twenty years, so I'm not totally out of the loop here. they are not addicts and it hasn't affected their lives outwardly at least. Just like people who go out drinking at the weekend.
I didn't single out this habit as an evil which should be banned did I? I linked it with acceptable drugs such as ciggies and alcohol.
All I was trying to say is that I don't believe that the world will be a better place with one more legalised drug.
You see, there are sensible users, perhaps like yourself and others, just as there are sensible users of alcohol, but there are abusers too and if it is made easier to obtain there will be addicts which is why we have alcoholics and smokers who cannot, or find it difficult to quit.
Any drug is addictive if it abused, including pot, whether you like it or not.

In a nutshell legalise it all...everything.
Most crime is drug related in one way or another. And if people want to take drugs let them.......
How many people reading this thread smoke ciggies....or enjoy a beer or glass of wine..
Alcohol and tobacco are the two most addictive drugs out there..You want to ban drugs start at the top..not half way down the list..
