Of course, I believe we all have souls. What I don't understand is how

then

can one not believe

in the existence

of a supreme being

and still believe in

in the 'intangible' soul?

It doesn't make logical sense to me.

--
Those that believe in God live with their interpretation of how God lives with them in thier lives.
The soul can't be proven, either. but most everyone will say, without a doubt, ...

They have a soul.

thumbs up ABSOLUTELY......

It seems very strange indeed that people will believe in Souls, Spirits, Ghosts, the potency of Astrology, Some progessive branches of theoretical Physics, THEORY of Evolution... even Fairies, Giants that romed the Earth pre-Genises... and literally allsorts... yet they cannot accept that there is a supreme being which designed this magnificent perfect universe and us, remarkably intelligent and complex beings with a spirit and soul... .... for no reason!!!...

perhaps in some cases it stems from the past....perhaps they have made a willful conscious decision to reject all that is God, and supplant it with ANYTHING else that will temporarily fill the gap.... the mind boggles... laugh

Gap?

There is no gap to fill for me,
I am a whole content person and I agree with Claayer
my soul is who I am as a person.

Logically there is no need for anything else for me.

But for me myself.. my view encompasses all of those things.. I don't believe in ANY of those things.
So I am not an Atheist who only believes there is no such thing as a god. I just don't believe any of that stuff mentioned above.

I only believe in the here and now thing.. and things I have seen as proof to me.

Dusty45: Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary -
Soul

Soul\, n. [OE. soule, saule, AS. swel, swl; akin to OFries. s?le, OS. s?ola, D. ziel, G. seele, OHG. s?la, s?ula, Icel. sla, Sw. sjl, Dan. sil, Goth. saiwala; of uncertain origin, perhaps akin to L. saeculum a lifetime, age (cf. Secular.)]

1. The spiritual, rational, and immortal part in man; that part of man which enables him to think, and which renders him a subject of moral government; -- sometimes, in distinction from the higher nature, or spirit, of man, the so-called animal soul, that is, the seat of life, the sensitive affections and phantasy, exclusive of the voluntary and rational powers; -- sometimes, in distinction from the mind, the moral and emotional part of man's nature, the seat of feeling, in distinction from intellect; -- sometimes, the intellect only; the understanding; the seat of knowledge, as distinguished from feeling. In a more general sense, "an animating, separable, surviving entity, the vehicle of individual personal existence." --Tylor.

--

Atheist

a person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings.

The defintion here is a tad misleading in my view; but I know that a choice (requiring a brain with reasoning functions) to beleive in abstract notions has nothing to do with having a soul/aura/energy except as a fascillitater. Choice is brain function, not a soul function. wine

I know for me personally.. it has never been a conscious decision or choice.. I just know that through my life I have never seen or heard anything that made me believe.. but I have never shut it out.. I just never experienced anything that made me think there were gods..

So for me it was/is not about rejection.. just something naturally I grew to have no interest in knowing more about.

I still see, hear.. experience the beauty in the things around me.. (always) I still appreciate all of those things.. But to me.. they are there because of nature ... earth seeds water.. sun etc.. and not because I believe a god put them there.

I do my best to be the best version of me I can be.. I naturally live by own version of the commandments.. which really is just about being a good person.... and an Atheist I maybe.. and a non believer in anything already mentioned.. but it doesn't make me any less of a person.. in many ways.. I think it has made me a BETTER person.

(I know you didn't say I was a bad person.. LOL .. I was just rounding up what I was saying hug)

I believe our souls reach far and wide beyond any imaginings. It's not just contained
within our physical bodies. That, we receive all information that our brain digests through
that unlimited extension of all our souls. We are selective about what information we choose
to receive, but it's all out there. Just as we breathe...we are also connected with other souls.

trish123: Id love to kow how you think my beliefs equate to a negative

Simple, if you "believe" there's no god, you're an Atheist. If you refuse to believe in god without proof, you're an Agnostic.

Only you can determine which one you are.
