This is the time of the Democrats. Will the changes to come be right or not? Only time will tell! I believe they will and the time is needed. Also there is a unity of peoples not seen for some time. There will be a spirit of encouragement and hope! Let us also lift up our flags from the dirt we have allowed it to fall. Raise it high and have pride once again in ourselves as Americans.

Good luck......... just wish the sentiments were:

'Pride in being firstly human beings AND also proud of our country'

It would be so nice for the USA to be perceived as part of the world community rather than being perceived as placing itself above all others - the world should be a better place when common problems are shared and not treated as 'their problem, but we'll ignore it if it affects us' (you know, things like global warming, energy shortages etc).

You guys have whined like crazy when you've had to pay $3/4 for a gallon of gas when it was only $1 a few years ago. You should all pay $6 per gallon and learn to conserve OUR planet's resources a bit better!

This planet has limited resources. We should all have a reasonable standard of living, but is it right to lead an American gas-guzzling dream in this day and age?

What do we really want from life and for our children?

The United States was, and to a certain extent still is, very rich in natural resources AND in human resources.......... now is the time to think:

'What sort of planet do I want my children to grow up in?'

I hope you quit squandering the enormous wealth in resources that you have left..........

Some people fear that your new President elect might just take a protectionist stance and one that will be negative for world trade. This would harm the rest of the world, and also make things worse for the USA.

President-elect Obama has most of the rest of the world happy that he has won..... let's hope for a more prosperous, happy, less divided and peaceful USA (and world) during his term of office.

thumbs up

I agree there are those that watse much. But it is unfair statement to say we all are that way. At $6 dollars a gallon most of us in the South would go broke and lose all we have. Your general statement is misguided and inflamatory. Your own country has those who watse much. Look at the rich there and see what you condemned me for in your general statement. I save every dollar I can and waste little. Now if I have a Birthday cake....don't come and try to piss on my candles...it ain't nice.

"Barack Obama is indeed a 32nd degree Prince Hall Mason."...and this was quoted from a source. People who are still naive in todays world believing politicians will "make" a difference, need to wake up. They ALL in the end of the day work for the same "company". They might have different policies and "dreams", but their agenda remains the same.
Many things can be changed for the better at the politicians hands, but aren't...gotta ask yourself why???

Because it is in their best interest! They have to keep us happy in order to get theirs. The same thing you do at work...you keep others happy to get yours. They are like the stock market...some make money going up and others going down.....one is rep. the other dem. one makes theres taing and the other giving. Each makes someone happy and keeps a bal.....and they get their own. Thats the way the world works. Media builds up a star to make money...then tears them down to make money. The same as you do....you either make or destroy in order to get yours. You are the same.

I married a woman from the South.......... she was very poor and drove an old Dodge V8 four litre beast of a truck.

Now she is driving something a little more sensible............ even though it took her many years to give up the old Dodge!

She also lost her job when her industry (textiles) got outsourced to cheaper countries - one of the traits of human beings is being able to change with changing times........... remember seeing some black guy who lost his job in the same industry retraining and becoming well-off - it's called 'survival' and those that can adapt do and those that can't either die or live on social security.

No, you won't all go broke and lose all you have if gas hit six dollars a gallon - you could always emmigrate! hug

I never pissed on your birthday cake - I just hope you can be proud of being both an American and an inhabitant of this planet.

Which is my country, by the way?

I'm a Brit, and it is true we waste a lot (but maybe less than you so we are moving in the right direction). I also live in a little island that does things like recycles used vegetable oil into diesel fuel and the inhabitants (until very recently) managed to survive on very little and where nothing went to waste.... 'we' could learn a lot from them.

I'm NOT some guy who says we should go back to living in tents and become hunter/gatherers but i do say we should question what we firstly NEED and then what we WANT out of life.

I suggest you burn less candles on your birthday cake - it's a waste of candle power!

Yes, my post was inflamatory but not wholely misguided. laugh

I am serious in my desire to try and discover if there is a better way ahead - capitalism works far better than communism in supplying what we want, but the focus on never-ending 'growth' in economies just doesn't make 100% sense to me........... can't we have a good life that isn't totally fixated on getting more and more and more of 'things' that don't make us really happy?

A general statement puttin all under one umbrella is flawed. This is what you have done. I today took toner from three cart. and filled one from the waste toner from them...saving $99 dollars. The others will be recycled. Don't generalize you insult those who are trying to do that you preach. Why not migrate to the South and buy and sell at the flea market. peoples money is tight. Shipping and prices have put new things outside the peoples budget.....come and see the doors closed from $4 gas in this town. Wholely misguided....no........misguided...YES!

You are right. I made a general statement that was wrong of me.... I should have written 'Many of you guys whined when the price of oil went up' (can't recall any who didn't mind you!).

I also dislike generalisations.

99% of the people I met in the south (Georgia, Alabama and N/W Florida) were decent, hard-working, good people.

It is very sad when these type of people lose jobs that are outsourced to another country - even if it ultimately benefits everybody over time.

For the individual it can be catastrophic; and that is why we need governments that can make these changes less painful for those affected, without allowing people to lose the will to work.

It made me laugh when McCain accused Obama of being a Socialist - heck, having free education and free health care are 'socialist' type things a civilised society should aspire to! That's what people pay taxes for - if we didn't pay taxes and had no need for government then there would have been no Obama or McCain wanting to be elected to spend your hard-earned money...........

I apologise if I offended you - let me buy you some new candles for your cake!

grin
