Ok I am not offically allowed to talk about work outside work.Something they said in the employes handbook .But here goes.
My company is so cheap They
Firstly they stopped putting sick leave on our pay packets a few years back.I work with ladies who's spouses still get sick leave on pay packets but not us .We even tried to have it written into one of our EBA's .No way the bosses said if sick leave is written on paypackets workers will use it up!!! And they budget on everyone never taking a sick day like WTF .And I loved being told you are not entitled to use 10 sick days a year .
Secondly they have stopped printing paypackets .If we want a record they email our pay packets to us .When confronted by workers who don't have the net at home (yes some of us working poor dont not me lol). They eventually said if your really NEED a record print them at work .
The straw that broke the camels back for me .Group certificates or whatever they are called now .Nope company no longer prints and sends these out !!!! Me being Me said how do we do our taxes .They sent out a two page letter to all employees saying they were saving paper and trees by not printing them out. And we were given details on how to access them and then use our printers at home to print them out .From what I've been told the 50 odd employees from my site all used the compaines printer ink and paper to print them out.

So how many trees have been saved by
ANot printing pay packets
B Not printing and mailing out Group Certs .
How many times have my company gone over budget on people taking sick leaverolling on the floor laughing

Just as a side note .While they want to save trees by not printing the above .Every week in my locker at work is placed my roster for the following weeks work. Now I have been a full time employee for almost 2 decades .I have worked the same shift for many many years .And every week I have printed my hours of work for each day.
Like how many trees are killed to tell me I work the same shift every day for 47 or 48 weeks a yearrolling on the floor laughing
And they still my RDO'S wrong !!!

Hi ah, wave

Most companies now send you pay slip in an email... I was charged with collecting emails for all the employees in our company.. It was a project that took me almost 3 months, as I sent everyone an email and asked them to reply, because I wanted to be sure that the email address was correct.

It is up to you to keep these in a folder and hang on to them. I dont know why you need to keep a hard copy of this???

As for end of year statements... we have sent out ours in hardcopy..But yes, you can either print them out at work, or send them to you home email...and print off at home. I think that your company is taking it to the extreme re these.. because you do need to present this to your tax man..

Re your sick leave... you can always ring the Human Resource and Payroll dept and ask how much you have owing. You will find they are obliged to tell you... if not.. seek out your union rep to do it for you...

We have 5 sick days a year which accumulates. You should find that you are also allowed to take carers leave ... and that comes out of your annual leave... and if you so desire, that can come out of your sick days also... check it out with your policies, which you should be able to read on your intranet online in your work time...

dunno

Sick days are those which you retire to your bed when you feel ill, and may expose others to your illness... Pandemic... Its your moral obligation to not infect others with your germs... therefore, if I was to come to your book shop, and you had a roaring cold, and sneezed all over the place, and I felt you were neglecting your duty to stop the spread of germs, then I would report you... not a problem with that whatsoever... grin

I do whatever I need to to make the ilness duration the shortest and unoticeable as I can with nasal sprays, decongestants etc...
And yes, I don't want to be coughing and spluttering on the elderly customers and would wear a mask if there was risk of spreading jerms, but still keep the business running.

Hi Micky ,sounds like your boss doesnt appriciate his employees ,You have a legal right under the award to know what sick days /annual leave you have owing. You have the RIGHT to insist this information if not on your pay sheet is emailed to you whenever you request it .You also have the right to insist if you do not have access to a computer to be either written too weekly or phoned .You need to make an appointment with your boss and be very clear you are prepare to go above him with your complaints if they are not addressed to your satisfaction.
Read your policies They will be in the office , oh yeah and you can logb the time taken to read them as overtime ....If you have any issues with policy talk to Fairworks
Dont be a doormat !!!you matter!!!!!

I've never had sick leave entitlements recorded on any payslip, anywhere I've worked confused And we keep track of our annual leave ourselves too.

As merri said, sick leave is there for when you are genuinely sick, not some pot of gold, reward or whatever and if people can't keep track of the amount of time they have had off sick during each year well... confused

As far as emailed payslips, welcome to the 21st century doh

People who can't come to grips with internet communication relating to their workplace need to accept that the old way is just that, old .. and over.

yes the union knows . they are a rather weird company to work for .I am not allowed to say who they are .Not quite a charity but I over heard a big wig in HR brag they told the tax department they shouldn't pay tax .As being an organisation not designed to make a profit they shouldnt be made to pay tax . I think the company was told pay up lmao.

Hey serene no offence I was basicly crippled last friday I could just walk let alone do my job .Had to go home on sick leave whoops no leave. As I've used it all up i knew it so I used anual leave are we saying I should have stayed at work ? Well really I should have called in sick .Or shouId I have just stayed at work doing maual labor nd not being able to perform any single task .

The other point with the net .I work with people who are the single income earners of their family . They can not afford the net let alone a PC so if they werent allowed to print at work no pay slip does that sound fair .Yes as many of us like to say we are the working poor.
Another point on the net many years back I was dragged over the coals for having the net at home .Two of my team leaders thought it was a waste of money etc . But in truth it was when dial up was only available here and they couldnt contact me !!!

You must be good my bosses can not keep track of our RDO leave . I've got Monday off bet my team leader has no idea !!

While I think if it watched a boss tell 10 people for being 1 minute late back from morning tea .They each wasted 1 minute worked out to be 10 wasted minutes in total of company time .
Then watch the same boss stop a pretty employee from working for 45 minutes while he talked to her lmao
This company also blows a siren to start work finish work start of breaks and end of breaks Talk about henry ford !!

the company I work for still gives us printed payslips, with our annual leave owing each week.

in every workplace you will find cheap short cuts, supposedly for the short term, but usually end up being long term "solutions". When in fact spending a little bit of money can save a lot more in the long run.

just make sure Mickey that you print your payslips off at work. And I thought legally they had to provide a hard copy of your group certificate? Maybe worthwhile checking with the ATO

I've learned over the years to keep my head down, bum up and just concentrate on doing my job well.

Questioning and analysing one's company's/employer's business practices and observing those who are supposed to be leading by example only does your head in I find thumbs up

Hi Serene, wave

You are quite right... head down, bum up and don't pay no mind to what others do..

But I take breaks for a smoke... and although they are not encouraged, I nick off when I want to... but I always work overtime to compensate my breaks... however, I dont own a mobile phone,

so I dont have phone breaks like everyone else...

so I dont feel a bit guilty ...not at all...

I think everyone who has a job on the East coast just has to be happy for small mercys and think they could be one of the many manufacturers or retailers out of work atm.
Any job is better than none.
I think most of the people here are single, some are parents and some pay child support, money is tight, but they manage to keep an internet connection.
I know I used to buy stuff at garage sales on a Sat. morning when I was working in the IGA store Mon - Fri and Sun. morning get down to the market at 6am to secure a site and make a few hundred $$$ selling what I'd picked up on Sat morning. It was just a way to make life a little more easy with a few extra pennies in the kitty.
