Life line of air food, hope births jubilation as first miner rises 700 meters slowly to the top and greets life’s sudden reality transformed.
For two days we watched as you dangled one-by-one, by a cord not nine months in the waiting but no less powerful in its consequence.
69 days of a surreal existence buried in the bowels of the earth President Pinera at full attention with billions hidden by his side the drama as ancient as the mine an ingenious time capsule created to turn back the clock to safety before the fall entombed miners.
We are the keepers of our sisters and brothers unspoiled by Cain’s touch in a world that now knows the way to Chile’s San Jose mine Rescuer Manuel Gonzalez gets into the Fenix capsule taking his life into his own hands descends into darkness to discover the light.
Bloodshot eyes, tangled hair tear-streaked cheeks await the early to late risings the stone rolled away as a nation and the world are reborn to hope.
No “great escape” this but rather a rescue driven by a bit and the beating of human hearts.

About this poem:
Though written on the day of the rising, still not sure it is ready for the light.
GNJ, a great story told indeed and in deed. you make us feel as if we were there...maybe not a great escape, but a great story / poem. ;-)

This is truly beautiful, beyond words gnj I love the analogies, and the inherent truths you convey here.
"births jubilation... not nine months in the waiting but no less powerful in its consequence..."
That is a superb reflection on the outcome of human gestation!
"We are the keepers of our sisters and brothers unspoiled by Cain’s touch.... descends into darkness to discover the light."
How true! When we are keepers, we may often have to descend into darkness, only to discover the light! This is truly poignant.
"the stone rolled away as a nation and the world are reborn to hope."
From my perspective, this is so of "The Christ Consciousness" ..a gentle yet powerful reminder of how each and every one of us can make a difference in this world, even if we are thought to be gone.
And your last stanza so brilliantly speaks to both our humanity and Divinity ~ What a gift you have given us...
Ty for this sharing!

Hi, jazzy75 and macduff5, I am pleased that emotion was conveyed on the many levels I felt when writing it. The survival and rescue demonstrated that humans can be quite amazing beings. Thank you both for your generous comments.
