reverence

do i worship the ground you trod?
of course! it is my mother earth
the place my heart rests upon,
the place of my birth
so hallowed

do i bless sunlight on your face?
of course i do, you're my human race
all of my humanity
resides in you
i consecrate

do i take that note so feint,
and hold it long up to my ear?
the ring of truth sounds!
clear as the ocean aire
to worship

do i inhale deep cool smoky air
chilled on a December evening?
remembering joyous gathering
from near and far
and sanctify

do you touch me, hand to heart
and reach what no one knows?
instinct follows age-old ways
to my reverent life
i do sign
