ELEGY
Author: Alexander Pushkin
Extinguished joy of crazy days gone by,
I am in agony as if I’ve drunk too much,
But same as wine the sadness of years past
The older in my soul the deeper hurts my heart.
My road is sad, it promises much labor, strife,
The troubled sea of future days to come.
But I don’t want, oh friends, to die, be gone,
I want to live instead to think and suffer more.
I know that there are pleasures meant for me
Amongst the hardships, care, and need to be:
From time to time partake of harmony I will,
Upon creations of my mind I’ll weep as if for real,
And maybe once perchance the sunset mine
Will brighten up by sweet love’s parting smile.
