This Ghastly Depression

In the dark of night
When the moon is ripe
And loneliness my companion
Sad songs drifting sounding tripe
Fuelling my ghastly depression

There I sit watching misery
Spider walking up the wall
Whisky bottle brings memories
Memory takes me to a dance hall

There I met her tall and blonde
A vision so divine
Our eyes met was love's sight
I had to make her mine

Love blossomed, was like a dream
Was all that I'd prayed for
Together we would build our life
All that I wanted and more

Day came that we wed
Our vows we did speak
Man and wife we did become
And love grew from week to week

Word came I did not want
My heart ripped from my chest
A driver drunk, took her life
And I had to put her to rest

Darkness closed in all around
Was nothing left to live for
What I cherished, all was gone
And life is but a whore

In the dark of night
When the moon is ripe
And loneliness my companion
Sad songs drifting sounding tripe
Fuelling my ghastly depression

I used to work with a woman disfigured by a drunk driver, it ripped my heart out every time I saw her. I will never drive drunk, I used to be in SADD, Students Against Drunk Driving. Another culprit is drowsy driving, that is a big problem too.sleep coffee2 santa waving beer

For those of us whose lives have been affected by drunk drivers I think this poem really touches on the sadness of it. The person that drives drunk has a choice and chooses to pick up that drink and then drive. Time to quit feeling sorry for them and time to place blame on the guilty not just leave the victims to hang out and dry sad flower

Unbelievably painful to read- I don't know how one survives the pain of losing loved ones through the senseless and the mindless actions of DRUNK DRIVERS -For it beggars belief trying to imagine the painful heart wrenching devastation that must ne left on the.minds of loving families..who are left trying desperately cope with what is definitively a senseless( tragedy).caused by IDIOT DRUNKEN DRIVERS,hug angel thumbs up

Thank you Maxeen_1 for your comment....it is so hard when you see the senseless tragedies caused by drunk drivers....so many claim that they can drive better after consuming alcohol.
