A thousand steps Walking a crooked fence Am I the only one to say? This is my miserable penance A million smiles Crushed beneath my feet Yet this crooked fence Meanders for miles and miles Can this be the future? I saw so much in dreams Where every single face Shouts to me a million screams Did I not conquer? All of known mankind Yet the crooked fence Still conquers my mind I took the boundaries Far beyond Macedon Yet a thousand steps Was never enough Kingdom For every single man Would build his own crooked fence And a thousand steps Can never cover destiny
If I could have conquered the heavens Within a thousand steps And bound all of the stars Within a crooked fence Then would I truly have been King But walking a thousand steps Along a crooked fence Would be a million screams too far For me to face my destiny

About this poem:
I have seen some lovely poems on this great theme from Kickit. I have tried to envisage that no matter how great you may be you still walk your own crooked fence. Rob

Hi Rob,
Good to see you back in form. A great contribution to the challenge. So much to think about with this one. Well done mate.
This is a wonderful interpretation...and makes me think how orderly we try to make life out of such disorder...truly a wonderful thought provoking idea...
Hi, trurorob, Hopefully, lessons can be learned from the journey of one who would be "King of Kings". And a thousand steps Can never cover destiny... but, it is a beginning. Thanks for joining the journey of A thousand steps...

Walking a crooked fence
Am I the only one to say?
This is my miserable penance
A million smiles
Crushed beneath my feet
Yet this crooked fence
Meanders for miles and miles
Can this be the future?
