Holiday lights color December moments. Their primary colors glow through the darkness - yet cannot compete with the brightness of stars that shine and self-consume in their passion to ignite direction to weary travelers.
Each bulb on the Christmas string burns with such low intensity it cannot kindle the most delicate branch to blaze - yet, year after year, attempts to mimic nature in a twinkling show of presence, and perhaps substance, in a world trying to find its way.

About this poem:
I love this season…a cause to ponder meaning within creation, including what we create and celebrate. While recognizing the illuminary icons that lighted our path to the present and those who lead us into the future, we should not underestimate the power of our own efforts to get others as well as ourselves through the darkness of life's winters into the light.
It is difficult to put words out not knowing how people will react...hoping that each will have some meaning for the reader. Thank you for reading and sharing your kind and insightful thoughts.

I said before, I say again, you have a gift for taking the mundane and illuminating the extraordinary in it, thank you for sharing your talent..., you're one of those souls who does not merely see an 'acorn' but perceives the majesty of an oak tree in all its glory hiding within...
Hi, Earlgreytea, Continually moved by the awesome beauty of nature, I ponder the place of humanity within it and our efforts to find our way. Your words are so kind and much appreciated. Thank you.
Enjoyed reading "Lighting the Way"...there is so much to be aware of in life...subtle meanings often unseen...thanks for bringing a fresh viewpoint to some familiar scenery. And no matter how much we try to mimic nature... we can never quite capture the beauty and purity of it.

Joy, what a beautiful name to go with this beautiful write! "Lighting the Way" such a perfect title! The last line:
"In a world trying to find its way" - lovely!
This one I will read aloud as is my practice, because you know poetry is to read aloud and this entices me greatly!
We need to be, the light... the world needs to see!
Much love to you!

Hi gnj4u
I read your poem a few times now...How I wish I had written this beautiful poem! you translate the most wonderful glow from your special thoughts in, Lighting the Way
Hi, Mizzy4, Thank you for your generous comments about my poem. They are much appreciated. Having this poem resurface has prompted me to write a poem about this year's lightless tree that, nevertheless, manages to lift my spirits and point toward lighter days. Thank you for that, too. Hi, timothy, Thank you for your kind comments about my poem. It's comforting to know that its message still speaks to this season of hope and light. To both (and ALL), Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!!!

Perhaps a comment on the recent
environmental conference?
