Our governments say the world is rich With all the information we need at our fingertips They marvel at our majestic rise From living in caves and fearing fire To living in luxury and material things our only desire
When you walk along our busy streets The bright lights and funky art The smile's the laughter to which you are part
You walk along in such a rush Your part of the great city push Everywhere you look you see nice cafe's or city bars The hotel with the front so plush
I ask you now to press pause To slow right down and look around I ask you to open your eyes and maybe you will see
The cardboard nation we try to forget The one our government looks upon with regret Sleeping bags home's a population laid bare They have now cafe's or funky art Just blood and urine soaked corners in which they sleep
Feces stain their cardboard homes The smell of human decay fill their nose A feeling of negligent a feeling of being depressed Is cured by a drug filled blast In the shape of a can, bottle or syringe A feeling of hope but it does not last
Now people say it is their choice Or maybe they are on government list People say it is their habits that brought them here And they are hooked on gear
Some things said might be true But who are you, who am to cast judgment in this way I would like to think that every human has a right to their own say And all I ask is this That you add these people to your mind list
This is part of our population all the same Just because they are homeless they should not be treated inhumane I am not asking you all to give money away I am asking that you don't judge, spite or urinate For it is just vile to treat a human being that way.

I was once homeless and lost but we are picking up again me and mum but some of them resigned to their fate I still got a steep hill to reach to the top ..nice one
Dear poet, what you say here is unbearably painful, I was moved and hurt by your words. Sadly, it is all true, wish it weren't! Even if their lifestyle leading to self-destruction were their own choice, they remain human beings and deserve much better. God give them another chance, help them all! Thank you very much for bringing this problem to our attention, for feeling what you feel! Kindest regards!
We have plenty of homeless people here. The most concentrated live just outside of Walt Disney World. I guess tourism and warm climates make for a better existence for them. I had a friend who was facing homelessness and now lives off of welfare from blindness due to diabetes. I wonder sometimes if he went blind on purpose to save himself from homelessness.

Akeldama40 you are so right that every homeless person has their own miss fortunate reason for being in that difficult position and whatever that reason may be they are human beings with their sense of pride and dignity...all each of us as human beings can do is offer a helping hand show some comas sion and consideration and we only truly understand what it's like to be homeless if we unfortunately have been there or become homeless every homeless man woman or child has their own story to tell of what led them to being in that situation and each one deserve a helping hand to get their life back on track
