night lines

dissonance without purpose is noise
and understanding chords harmony

the essence and attributes of God
are adjectives and adverbs pressing

my thoughts, breezing, air like
across vacuums and miles and epochs

back to when we heard the sound
of stars at night buzzing the trees

droning their shimmering lines behind
and Perseid lasted all night long

the highway got quiet after awhile
and we sat on the stair stoop

cooling our thoughts and passions
waiting for the 5am onshore breeze

In the moment without even knowing,
we were young and didn't analyze much

just felt the raw truth of it all
the sticky T-shirt and sunburned nose

sheer exhaustion from no sleep,
not willing to miss anything that

might or might not change us
into something we only dimly sensed

yet yearned for without words
something just over the horizon of day

Don't know why made me think of the sixties and seventies. Excellent write. Yet yearned for without words something just over the horizon of day. Oh my yes I have chased that fleeting moment before.

Hi, agoodguy2have,
You are certainly celebrating Poetry Month with great acumen. Lovely poem! Thank you for sharing. One can still see up to 60 per hour when Perseids peaks August 12-13. With "the thin crescent moon...out of the way early", not willing to miss anything, "look to the northeast after midnight" to see their shimmering lines.
