Wild Fire

No warning given, it began.
A small and feeble spark.
Tinder ignited and wind did fan.
A glowing ember in the dark.

The fields had grown both high and dry
The winds now shifted east.
And flames leaped up into the sky
And so was born the beast.

Fueled and gently stoked it burned
And nothing could impede it.
And to it's destination turned
Each breath it took did feed it.

Roaring off and heading east
Toward the rising sun.
Unstoppable by man or beast.
It cannot be undone.

Trails of smoke across the sky
Will mark it's fevered flight
And so the fire will burn and fly
Throughout the dogday's night.

When morning comes it's but begun
And it shall spread and grow
And all behind it lay in ash
That falls like winter snow.

And burn it shall, this wild fire.
Intense and hot and free.
And nothing now is there to do
But watch and let it be.

The earth it scorches cannot die
And in the char and wake.
New seeds will sprout and grow so high,
A lush new world to make.

Great write GH! A forest ranger told me once that the forest fires were an essential part of the cycle. Kudos! beer
