Written 10-22-00. A friend of mine owns...well, when this was written about 10-15 horses and one really stood out in my mind. She was a blind Saddlebred mare in her 20`s and she was never with the rest of the herd, but when I was there I swear she was looking right at me and knew things about me that I didn`t even know.

He arises again! Must be that time of the year!
Our dog is always on guard
Something very old and primitive in our brains understands compassion even between species as witnessed with my cat. It makes me wonder why our more complex human brains discount it so much.
This poem came to me as I was riding with some friends high up in the mountains a few years ago. I'd say the poem out loud and we'd all repeat it , finding the words, making it complete. :-) It speaks of man's desire to answer what's inside. :-)
This poem is about making the difficult decision of putting a dog down when it is so ill that it cannot walk, eat or control its bodily fluid any longer.
To see in the dark To wander about Unaided Unable to see To feel ones foot steps Where Objects lay To find your way Unaided to walk with ease to Walk Earing noise to help guide your way Object you canot avoid there in the way
Or is life a giant mobius, winding toward the center.
Written 8-4-02, a lot of the wolf poems I write are about my personal struggles with pieces of myself, and this one had a lot to do with seeing beauty within myself, and trusting that it was real, and that I should accept it. On the other hand, it has a strong message about understanding the wolf which I think we are all still trying to do. Sylvia, is also a medicine woman up here, so the name seemed fitting.
An honest poem about an honest horse. "No hour spent in the saddle is ever wasted" - Winston Churchill.

I wrote this poem when my Alsation dog had her puppies and it was time for them to go to their new homes. It is not easy letting them go, you can never be totally sure they will be treated properly, so I guess this was just my way of expressing my feelings.
