Impress me
Don't try to impress me I know you all to well
the market trader look when planning a deal
I just know you are trying weighing the odds
to pull a fast one over some poor sucker
The sheepish look when you have cheated
flowers and chocolates by the score
tiredness the excuse as you roll away
so don't try to impress me my dear
Yet you being a great father and friend
goes a long way towards forgiving you
the loving way you help others in need
all of this is what impresses me the most

Well, aches and pains,
No joy of life in whatever doses.
A smile, a kiss, a gentle touch -
Tinges my soul with smells of roses?
Truth is, that with no pain,
There is no love,
And so no hope.
And with no hope there can't be life!
So figure this - just strife?
Do hope.
And bear the pain,
To play the game.
Don't be so vain
Nor hide in shame.
For it would be a pity
To miss out on the basic ingredient of life.
And possibly ... Fame!

About this poem:
After I wrote this piece, I actually finished reading the last pages of Dan Brown's 'The Lost Symbol', and incredibly the very last word in the narrative was precisely 'Hope'. A huge coincidence, really.

Homage to Kipling
Do you ever ponder on the purpose of life?
wonder why things turn out the way they do?
ever look back and think I did that wrongly?
then go and make exactly the same mistake?
("If you can dream- and not make dreams your master
If you can think-and not make thoughts your aim
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:")
What is the purpose of us even being on this planet?
Will our actions live on once we are gone from here?
Or like a breeze floating past will we just vanish?
Like the early dawn mists burnt off by the sun?
What will you teach your children about this coil?
Will you guide them well? make them fine citizens?
Leaving them to be your legacy of a life well spent?
They say a butterfly's wings beating changes the weather
All I know is strive to do right and be kind to all
To put others first before I choose a path in life
("Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!")

Im just a poem on a block of wood, I would talk and play as you do if I could, But I have to stay here day and night, And never grow in width or height. My auther says she put me here to give all a word of cheer.

To Live is a blessing we take for granted
how often does one pause and enjoy
the simple things yet intricately made
splendorous beauty of hollyhocks bowing
Stop, look and think, study your surrounds
think of how each thing you see counts
how each relies on other things to survive
open your eyes and instead just take it in
Don't think of negatives, be positive
never live for tomorrow or the past
treat each day afresh and full of wonder
just be joyous that you are alive and live life

sometimes in my darkest thoughts Shakespeare plays
would a rose by any other name change
or would it remain in its state the same
I could dispel ignorance who to blame
I searched but could not find no difference
the cover it is the same inside out
Is it because I cannot see I'm blind
Or is it still the makings of its kind
You can cast upon any name you wish
Attach it upon like an albatross
But in the end it will remain the same
Who can our misconceptions really blame
When only in our eyes do we see change
The molecules already are arranged

I rail against my feeble body that once was so swift
despair when tasks take three times longer now
it crept up on me seemly overnight, this thing they call age,
it pulls me down with it's agonising slowness
Always been the adventurer travelling the world
lived in some strange places with different rules
strived to live each minute to the max, exalt in life
taking no as no answer, digging under the surface
Many wondrous sights I have seen during my time
the miracle of birth, so fresh and new each time
so full of promise, a whole life yet to be lived
all that's before you is a blank sheet waiting patiently
I know for me that sheet is very full of doings
life is for living and boy, I have lived it in full
yet still I rail against age itself and the slowness
my mind can still take flight when it likes
Yet this shell in which I abide is crumbling
each year I seem to get slower and slower
such a pain, a burden and a strain on me
oh, to be young once more and be able to be fast

Ever wondered about Chocolate?
Been around since 1100 BC
First used as a very bitter drink
Aztecs delighted in sipping it
used it in some of their ceremonies
The beans are dried and fermented
ground down into cocoa mass
pure chocolate called chocolate liquor
this can be processed into solids or butter
Eventually Europeans sweetened it
by adding milk and sugar to the mass
unknown ingredients to the Aztec
they taxed cacao from conquered tribes
Whatever, however it came about
Cacao is one of the best discoveries
known to modern mankind
feel it melt in your mouth and inhale
Smell the pungent aroma of it
savour it as you eat a bar
be carried away to bliss
as you indulge yourself

About this poem:
so even in 1100 BC there was tax or tribute as then called
it is known to lower high blood pressure and is very toxic to cats and dogs

Such powerful images fill our dreams
weird fantastical events take place
rarely do you lose when you dream
things seem to take on life of their own
One time you will be the hero of battles
greeted as a conquer and royally feted
then you may become a bit of a rogue
playing tricks on friends that embarrass
Or a child playing having fun outside
next you could be a millionaire
living the life of Riley in a mansion
so let your imagination take flight
Soar up high riding on life's crest
don't try to figure it out just flow
let the dream's currents take you
on a wonderful magical mystery tour

Every day as you pass people by, pause and think
why is he living on the streets? Obviously a soldier
who once fought so all of us could continue in our safe lives
yet now abandoned even forgotten, what brought this pass?
Just think if every passer by gave just one pound to them
within in a week they could be off the streets in their own pad
getting a job, starting a fresh life, putting back into society
a simple solution that just needs people to be aware nothing less
As you walk down your street, ever stop and think who it is lives there?
there are so many elderly frail people now living alone their partner gone
too frail to venture out they sit trapped by four walls and if lucky a tv
a dutiful once a week family visit to check up and drop of some groceries
how nice if even just once a week we visited them and gave them some time
Just think you have the power to enrich and make such a difference
also one day it may be you who would appreciate a visit from some kind soul
