My Sunday Burden

Sunday has become so loaded down
With so many competing activities
Many people are burdened by choices
Moreover on this day meant for families
To get together and enjoy a day of rest
A time each week to do as we please
Free from the obligation of our work
Free from the scheduling of all activities
Outside of the observances of peace
When Sunday’s load will be lightened
And people can take a sigh of relief
Give thanks and practice their beliefs
Once again make joy celebrate and feast

About this poem:
I argue for the return of the "blue laws" and give Sunday back
it's truly meaningful role as a day of rest once again for families.

The Quotes Garden - XVIII – Last wish

Last wish

“Stay.
With me – the dying one
Who takes away your joy
Without the longing whisper;

Stay.
A moment – before I’m gone,
Without to even ask you, muse,
Where’s the cradle of a little boy; -

Stay.
And beat – a pulse within a twister;
The last one finding and excuse
For such a sudden leaving…

Stay.
To feel; to sigh; to mourn;
I’ll be right there – right there!
- Near this tomb.. and gently, waving…

Stay.
And dream; then let it float away…
For this last minute, I was born;
For this last one, - for you, so rare;

Stay.
With me, beloved. Let me mourn…
I’ll take your hands over my chest,
For all the tears that you are saving;

Stay.
And let me be. A memory…
Another story written in a hurry;
- But let me keep your glare!..

Stay.
A sigh; - the last one, out of worry,
My dying wish, one minute more
Before to take last breath of air –

Stay.
Your eyes – these sparkles crushing emery –
What torns my heart in such a heaving,
- Mirroring the core for which I’m grieving?..”

Murphy's Lens

Sideshow attraction
cold clever pieces
from Murphy's pages
we were estranged
in the east
where once I told you
I loved you
the boys on the front
ease the hours
writing home
my cigar winters
summer port
give time to remember
when your figure
and spirit
were vaguely lost
beneath the sails
I tell you this
yesterday's blue hue
gave no more
honeysuckle reason

Rejection.

You broke the bond by saying that to me
I thought friends would be there for eternity
The pain of rejection bewildered me
as the sadness of a reality struck
I leant on the bridge looking down as the river flowed
As the sunset on another day the time to unload.

About this poem:
I thought I had a friend and when I went back home I could always pop round and have a good chat.
Then I had moved far away and bumped into him in the street and joyfully wanted to tell him about my new life.
I got rejected and he walked off. I just stood there in the street bewildered.

I’m Safe In The Light! (Meditation)

Midday or midnight
A motto I live by,
I’M SAFE IN THE LIGHT!
What’s under my bed?
Some creature I dread
I’M SAFE IN THE LIGHT!!
These shadows I see
‘Til shallow I breathe
I’M SAFE IN THE LIGHT!!!
Those critters that creep
And nip at my feet
I’M SAFE IN HIS LIGHT!!!!
The monsters that growl
And upset my bowels
I’LL STAY IN THE LIGHT!!!!!
When jitters make sleep
But a sliver less deep
I’LL WAIT FOR THE LIGHT!!!!!!
Sun? Moons’ made a clearing
So hasten appearing
MAKE SAFE IN YOUR LIGHT!!!!!!!

Forest is going to Heaven

FORREST GUMP goes to HEAVEN

The day finally arrived when Forrest Gump dies and goes to Heaven.
He met at the Pearly Gates by St. Peter himself.

However, the gates are closed, and Forrest approaches the gatekeeper.

St. Peter said, "Well, Forrest, it is certainly good to see you. We have heard
a lot about you. I must tell you, though, that the place is filling up fast, and
we have been administering an entrance examination for everyone. The test
is short, but you have to pass it before you can get into Heaven."

Forrest responds, "It sure is good to be here, St. Peter, sir. But nobody ever
told me about any entrance exam. I sure hope that the test ain't too hard.
Life was a big enough test as it was."

St. Peter continued, "Yes, I know, Forrest, but the test is only three questions.
First: What two days of the week begin with the letter T?
Second: How many seconds are there in a year?
Third: What is God's first name?"

Forrest leaves to think the questions over. He returns the next day and sees
St. Peter, who waves him up, and says, "Now that you have had a chance to
think the questions over, tell me your answers."

Forrest replied, "Well, the first one -- which two days in the week begins with
the letter "T"? Shucks, that one is easy. That would be Today and Tomorrow."

The Saint's eyes opened wide and he exclaimed, "Forrest, that is not what I was
thinking, but you do have a point, and I guess I did not specify, so I will give you
credit for that answer.

How about the next one?" asked St. Peter. "How many seconds in a year?

Now that one is harder," replied Forrest, but I thunk and thunk about that,
and I guess the only answer can be twelve."

Astounded, St. Peter said, "Twelve? Twelve? Forrest, how in Heaven's name
could you come up with twelve seconds in a year?"

Forrest replied, "Shucks, there's got to be twelve: January 2nd, February 2nd,
March 2nd... "

"Hold it," interrupts St. Peter. "I see where you are going with this, and I see your
point, though that was not quite what I had in mind....but I will have to give you
credit for that one, too.

Let us go on with the third and final question. Can you tell me God's first name"?

"Sure," Forrest replied, "it's Andy."

"Andy?" exclaimed an exasperated and frustrated St Peter.

"Ok, I can understand how you came up with your answers to my first two
questions, but just how in the world did you come up with the name Andy
as the first name of God?"

"Shucks, that was the easiest one of all," Forrest replied. "I learnt it from the song,
"ANDY WALKS WITH ME, ANDY TALKS WITH ME, ANDY TELLS ME I AM HIS OWN."

St. Peter opened the Pearly Gates, and said: "Run Forrest, run."

Give us a sense of humor, Lord.
Give us the ability to understand,
And put humor in our life,
And -- pass it on to other folk.

The Quotes Garden - XVII – Epitaph

"The Quotes Garden"

[ XVII ]

Epitaph

“In the hidden grave, I’m sitting
Without any dreams around me,
Nor with thoughts to rise and be
Like this silver quill, and knitting
Tick!..

Only silence that surrounds me
Is the one who’s softly fitting
In this moment where I’m splitting
Everything, to let her be
Tack!..

Slowly, slowly, seems I’m getting
What is happening to me; -
While this grave, an empty quitting
Of such life – above, that waits me;
Tick!
Earlier, as someone dragged me
Out of nowhere – out of witting,
In this darkness that surrounds me,
Leaving there a feather writing
Tick, –

I just sat a while, without me –
With no thoughts to fill the pitting
For that which when I was splitting
- Sudden, I left all what’s not me:
Tack!

And it seems I’m lost without me,
For in darkness, where’s this gritting
That awoke me, - as I’m spitting
Dust and smoke, such urge, to be!
Tick!

One can’t chose what just can not be
What it’s clearly out there, sitting;
- Tough this grave is home to me.
Here’s no dreaming. While admitting,
Tack…

There I am. In silence, writing:
- Epitaph to let me be –
There’s nobody else, around me.
But there must be other, sighting.
Tick, Tack…”

Loneliness

Maybe I was meant to walk alone
But what of the loneliness in my heart?
When I close my door from the world,
The silence can be deafening.
Living without touch, laughter, hugs.
My strength waivers walking alone,
Surely this is not all there is?

About this poem:
Maybe there are a lot of us feeling this way on occasion. Doesn’t mean I want a man to rescue me, but a real life person who wants a partner too.

Cirque des morts

In the late late sunlight
dwarfs chewing matchsticks
in carnival rings
they have mustered
the feathered girls
from the tents
for the clown
he is deceased
like high wire fire
a drummer boy's defeat
here the town goes down
on the edge of the sun

A woman's perspective by a silly old man

I just plain don't like you
I don't share your point of view
You annoy me incessantly
Don't think I'm obligated to respond to you so pleasantly

I am independent now and don't need to kow tow
I don't want your sniveling
whimpers or mood swings
that doesn't make my heart sing

It just makes you more of a fool
and you just don't know the rule
I am woman, I need not have to explain my ways
You are man you are to just accept me and if you want to play
Man always pays

What's mine is mine and who I give is my choice and I don't listen to every voice
Yes, I may have what the boys want
yet, I can train my dog or another girl to give me a twirl

What hurts so much is there was a time I gave you my all and everything I am was yours to heed to your call
Yet, you betrayed my love for another you slipped on like a glove

Now here I sit in world of fools
feeling I'm drowning in a pool
Pretending I will find someone better
who may follow my rule to the letter
Yet, every night I still sleep cold and alone and my heart is but, a stone

They claim if given a try there is a possible new chance at love to wipe away the hidden tear in my eye
So, far I haven't seen much but, your clever lies
So, I have learned to play the same game
Yet, I'm finding nobody wins as we all watch the arrow spin
Waiting and wondering who or where it will stop to show a way in

So, I am content to just be and not wallow in pity or lament
I am empowered to love myself and not be a man's trophy sitting on a shelf

I have my ways and my faults and if you can't accept me as I am how can you expect me to love you oh foolish man?

You never realize how good you have it until it's gone
Though both sides suffer over what went wrong

Maybe after we all grow up we will find a moment to love again
Hopefully we will learn from our mistakes before we meet our end
