SIDEWARDS

I once kept a crab as a pet
but had not yet chosen its name
I wished to teach it how to speak
or at least emit a small squeak

So finally we got to chat!
I questioned it: “do you in fact,
move yourself sideways or forwards?”
Quoth it, “manifestly FORWARDS!”

I reflectively baptized it
“Progress”.

HOMELESS ORPHAN

Tomorrow
ever full of hope
can never be

for it has no place on earth
yet dwells somewhere
‘twixt dream and expectation

It has no being
to call its own

A Bit of Me

What do I look for? What do I need?

I'm looking for kindness and honesty I'm looking for a bit of me.

I know everyone is different and no two people are alike.
But I'm very unique and hard to compare.

I dance , I joke, I paint but I cannot ride a bike.
looking for someone to do things with to be fair

Like people in the UK say I'm looking for someone who's a bit of me.

About this poem:
I use to watch a reality show and singles meeting singles but it was people from the UK. I love accents and I find them attractive. The girls on the show who meet the new guys and if they liked them or felt they were a match or had things in common they would use the phrase "He's a bit of me"

Hope

Hope is the birthplace of our dreams; it’s perched in our souls.
Hope sings an eternal song avoiding all impossibilities with a returning option.
Hope is like an undistinguished flame that shouldn’t ever fully burn out.
Hope allows us to not hit rock bottom when all else fails.
Hope overshadows doubt and validates our choices in life.
Hope sets the tone for us to move forward looking ahead.
Hope demands self-forgiveness with less time to look backward.
Hope helps us to maintain clarity for future events.
Hope does not manipulate, dictate or control.
Hope is not silent but forever withstanding.
Hope is our static emotions in wait to fuel our dreams and aspirations.

Antivax Rats

The ship is sinking!
Rats doth flee,
Into the blue,
eternity.

In formless voids,
Rats do rant,
Until their words,
become scant.

A hobby horse,
A cause to vaunt,
But no science,
An empty taunt.

Sensationalist,
Conspiracies,
Rats to sink,
In raging seas.

Of misinformation,
And obfuscation,
There's no sense,
In obturation.

Still the rats,
Proclaim their cause,
Against all scientific laws.

"Vaccines are poison";
(They're apt to rant),
Although the proof,
Is rather scant!

Academia,
Is not their forte,
Into hysteria,
They do foray.

Using "science"
(Of which no one's heard);
Thus they "prove",
Their claims of merde.

Still, I don't wish them ill;
Because long covid's,
A bitter pill.

On they rave,
In words splenetic;
Vaccines (you see);
Make one magnetic!

They have a saint,
That you can see,
An osteopath;
Named Tenpenny.

Now, a saint's a saint,
(And sometimes useful);
Though in this case,
Is most untruthful.

Covid-19;
Designer virus,
Thus we need,
Vaccine inside us.

Coming from the "Institute"
(And that's a claim
They can't refute).

The way it is;
The world is now,
It's not my fault,
So don't have a cow.

Like an addict;
They know not still;
It's the Virus;-
That makes them ill.

There's another saint;
A medico;
Gain of function?
Oh no, no!

When it comes to covid,
Don't be grouchy,
Just say a prayer,
To Saint Fauci.

And lift that veil of,
Ignorance;
So you rats may,
Stand a chance!

ECLIPSE

Their lips locked together clumsily then more gently in seeking
She knew of a lie that had been told Perhaps she had read it The passion of a loving mouth was not hot, but cool

In the breathing together with him she could not tell if he was calling out her name for her own mind's song was singing his on high

In the twining and grasping of their bodies on the bed of her joy the world she had known but a moment before had slipped away into a dream she might never recall

This then, was dying The stab of him splitting her into slivers of delight If his force was inside her she could not know for now she only existed as his pulse

No not the 'clouds and the rain' 'The roar of the rainbow maybe'

Smiling at the intruder-thought which robbed her of an instant of her ecstasy
She sensed the shock-waves of her surrender drawing near Bracing herself she arched raising her lover before her

Her crescendo came in a deafening storm eclipsing all her senses utterly.

2021

I had more hours than last year
I went to Maine and ate lobster and saw the ocean
I got hit in the head with a hockey puck after watching hockey for 30 years
I got a cell phone at the end of June and spent a ton of time on it
I found the song Dead Man's Party by Oingo Boingo
I visited my mom in the nursing home after she lost her house
I went to a Brewer's game and saw a lot of confetti
I went to Chuck E Cheese in Onalaska, Wisconsin and saw the band
I hope you have a fun 2022!

Blue Mountains

Time will crumble ancient sandstone ramparts -
In rocky ruin to the valley floor below;
Oldest forest spirit - the ghost departs-
Silver serpent in mountain stream will flow;-
Words could scarce do justice -nor any arts-
Grey gums, ghost gums - seldom winter snow;
Land so old - that time itself stood still -
I've always loved her - and I guess I always will.

Behold wild cliff faces - tumble down through time;-
Burnished orange in the Sun's reflected glow,
Her face turned to the light - in each season's clime;-
Tufts of mist 'cross each craggy rocky brow;-
Vapours dissolve in the morning sunshine -
Quick look at those clouds of cotton wool!
Before the day's full burning heat does banish-
All mists into the air do quickly vanish.

Gum trees wild and sprawling to the cliff's edge-
In a rough green carpet to the valley floor,
The windblown scrub and toughest mountain sedge -
A straight drop of six hundred feet or more;-
Step close to danger - on a sheer rocky ledge -
(An ancient sea - in a time long gone before)
Great mountain range now soft with a blue haze;
Eucalyptus dancing on the summer breeze.

About this poem:
The famous Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, about 60 km west of Sydney. The "Blue" colour is caused by the refraction of sunlight through a very fine vapour of eucalyptus oil given off by thousands of trees in the heat of the day.

THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND

She went to see the doctor one day
And was devastated at what he had to say
You cannot wear anything for 2 weeks
Rub ointment on before and after you sleep

Two weeks she said
I might as well be dead
I can’t go out in public bare and naked
Everyone will think I am tainted

It’s no big deal the doctor said
She said I may as well stay in bed
Don’t be a drama queen the doctor replied
You must do as I abide

I can’t use anything to cover up she asked
No – not if you want to get better fast
Well that’s just hunky dory she said
Without my eye makeup I look like I’m dead!

CHRISTMAS NIGHT

Sparkling crystal flakes floating
Down from Heaven above
Covering all things with a coating
Of white showing God’s love

Peaceful quiet prevails around
The moon shining on the blanket of white
As God’s love has muffled all sound
Reflecting sparkling diamonds in the light

Listening to the sounds of the night
You can hear Angels singing in the sky
Celebrating the Glory of God’s might
Gossamer wings softly beating up high

This is the night that God was born on earth
They are celebrating His triumphant arrival
That night long ago when Mary gave birth
As the Old Testament foretold in the Bible

Glory – Glory on High Heaven and Earth
Our King and Prince of Peace has arrived
He has come to give us the miracle of rebirth
For Immanuel “God with Us” is alive!
