The Novelty Shop

In The 19th Century there was a place called a Magic or Novelty
Shop. These shops had so many things for sale: Magic tricks, masks, indoor fireworks, itching powder, magic snow, kids tricks and crazy gimmicks to amuse just about everyone. It was very popular with kids who bought cheap jokes to play on their friends at parties, Halloween or special occasions, even at school the tricks were there, trick soap was given to a student to wash his hands, as he washed his hands and face, he realized his hands were black from the soap. There was itching powder dropped down the necks of victims as they started to scratch their bodies, trick magic wands that go out of shape if held the wrong way, playing cards Old Maid, Snap and Happy Families, as well the Beetle Games. These shops eventually disappeared by the 1970's, although other gimmicks lived on...Laughing teeth, Slinkies, the man in the outhouse in a toilet being flushed with
a sign "Goodbye Cruel World", another man in toilet house when the door opened water was squirted, the bird that drinks water swinging up and down by perpetual motion, steel balls tapping endlessly, things will never be the same, as they disappeared forever.

Sugar

Sugar comes from sugar cane and when it is refined it is processed for use in all sorts of food, the world relies heavily upon it's use in sugary treats, jellies and of course chocolate and the children love it, so do adults. Now here's the bad news. Sugar if heated turns black and becomes a form of poison, it can destroy people's teeth and in extreme cases it can hospitalize people due to high sugar levels, the cause is Diabetes, which can damage many parts of the body, the evil god called Sugar can literally snuff out your life if you are not careful, yet the world relies on it like a huge drug problem. Like other addictions, once you are hooked on sugar it is for life, Your life. Sugar is promoted so much while the world is suffering with unhealthy bodies. We need to cut the sugar or death may be the final result.

Carnelian Moon

There was a blueish glow to it
The darkest end of autumn night
A soft snow falling at twighlight
Rising slowly from atop the ridge
Came in focus an enormous sight
A piece of red Carnelian hewn
Crested over the other heights
So bloody was its face pocked
With the marks of meteorites
Rising higher into midriff heights
Passing upwards but not too soon
The most bubbly, bubbly red moon

Getting Old Is A Drug

Out of a haze out of a daze into the clear sunlight
Today feels real and the way I feel
I am feeling alright

I hear people all around my feet on the ground
Life is bringing it's buzz
And now I know getting old is a drug

Arrive back home and all alone
The clock on the wall doesn't warn you at all
When you can go from happy to sad

But it's not so bad from out of the past a feeling that last
I still remember love
But I was never told getting old is a drug

The North Carolina Pearl

In the land of North Carolina there's a beautiful girl
Long ago when she was in Kentucky
I didn't know I was looking at a North Carolina pearl

So I ask you North Carolina
Could you send her back my way
Maybe this time goodbye will be a little easier to say

For I know she couldn't leave you long
You'll always be her world but if I could write a song
It would be all about the North Carolina pearl

And if I could whistle Dixie and see that flag unfurl
This soldier has one last love letter
Addressed to the North Carolina pearl

My Friend Karinya

This is a tribute to my dear friend Karinya, I met her when I was in hospital, she is no ordinary girl, she is something very special to me, she put up with me when I first arrived, I was not the most agreeable person at that time after being shunted from one hospital to another, I found we shared a lot in common especially the passion of music which started our friendship, Karinya was a nurse and I, a very sick patient, it was the fact I had lost a leg due to diabetes, I was struggling, however Karinya was very good at what she did, showered me and took care of me, she would occasionally put the cold shower on me and make me jump, but that did not stop me at all, I got my moment when she copped a face full of tap water, she took it rather well, she would get me out of the hospital bed when I had just woken up then practically ordered me into the shower, I was helpless with only one leg, she is a loose cannon and so am I which made for a lot of fun and games, she would tell me of her escapades in her night clubbing, apparently she liked drinking but had no clue when to stop she had many a wild party as well as going concerts, she made me laugh, I had been in the hospital for nearly eight months when I finally was released, I went through a lot of pain and suffering but it was Karinya that kept me positive, alas when I left she was not present, though I wrote her a final letter saying goodbye, well maybe this is the final time I will see her, then again maybe we will meet in the future, heaven only knows, she will always remain my dearest friend forever,God bless you Karinya and lots of love to you.

Gaslight (2)

Way back in the 1900's, streets were illuminated by gaslights, many murders took place in the back streets of London; Jack the ripper was one such man who honed his skills murdering call girls at night, while in the day saving lives, all of this took place under a glowing gaslight. The gaslight was also a place were lovers had romantic entanglements while the policeman would pound the beat protecting the public from criminal activities, his only defense was his police whistle, bataan and his specially designed helmet. The gaslight will always be remembered with fond memories of a time of a distant past.

Horror Hospital

At Horror Hospital in the Emergency Ward, strange practices are being carried out, like digging for veins to fit canulas, my arm was a victim when it blew up like a balloon and it started to bleed, do they know what they are doing ?. Another situation, why are they starving me when I am diabetic ?. They must know the risks low glycemic levels can cause, though they continue to do this. I personally think they have lost the plot; the ailment I have is a virus so they infuse me with antibiotics which is non effective against this problem, I am not happy about this practice and feel this could have been avoided with tablets. This I feel is incompetence that is why I don't like this hospital as it feels more like a prison sentence.

About this poem:
This poem is based on a true account that I personally experienced, for legal reasons I was unable to mention the actual hospital, so it was given the title Horror Hospital for the poem namesake. Believe me this is real, it's darn real.

The One Legged Man

The story starts as a man is rushed to hospital for emergency operation on his left leg, the surgeon decides to take off the leg below the knee, after months of convalescence the man was ready for moulding and fitting of the new limb. The man found new problems with walking as his leg hurt so much, he would try to stuff foreign objects to relieve the pain, but to no avail, the pain was still there. As time went by it was found the leg would only work in it's original configuration, it works better now though the pain persists, the man has learned many things as his first goal is to leave for home. At present the man is still here, awaiting his release date to go home. I should know because I am that man.

Does She Know

Does she know or doesn't she know
Maybe she'll never find out
I've been dreaming on poetry corner
With so many things to write about

Does she know or doesn't she know
Maybe I should stop writing today
But poetry corner is the only house of God
Where I could find a place to pray

Does she know or doesn't she know
Would it make a difference what would she do
Maybe I'm just wasting my time
So why is line after line another line of you

Does she know or doesn't she know
I'll have to wait and see
Where is all this ever going to go
Or will it stay does she or doesn't she
