Yes Lifes A D...I doubt it becoming mandatory with the aggresive systems that govern us..although they do offer piecemeal whilst rattling their sabres... :-)
I dont really care what anyone else has for dinner, I just worry about my own. After living in Mexico for many years I was shocked by all the fad eating/dieting bullchit I see going on here in Gringolandia.
I Learned to live in a culture where peeps eat to live. Food, like life is a celebration. I think things like Veganism for example, to be straight-up first-world indulgence. Im sure it would boggle the mind of peeps living in poorer places. Kinda puts it all into perspective eh.
Strikes me as a pile of silly nonesense. Eat and be grateful already!

KIBALUV: Well, veggies were once living too, so what's the difference? Scientific studies have shown that plants actually have feelings. They respond to sounds, music, touch & light just like any other living thing.
Vegetables contain fiber and its easy to digest while meat specially red meat contain a large amount of purines which creat uric acid and now a days there are large number of patients in USA,Pakistan and in meat lover countries facing gout problems
serene56: No beef here Well most Aussies like a bit of meat but the best trip I enjoyed food-wise was through northern India where most meals were vegetarian
Yes they made very good dishes with home made cheese and vegetables
sophiasummer: What was the home made cheese? what animal?
Home made cheese they make it from cow milk its a very popular in India and Pakistan.I did post a recepie in food forum in the past.I dont know milk comes in veg or non veg catageory but vegetarian people take more milk and its items than the non veg persons

The best argument for being a vegetarian is it is healthier than eating meat, especially red meat. I just got a bunch of recipies like lasagna, burgers, pork chops, meatloaf, ect. that are meatless and vegan. Looking forward to trying these out and see how they compare with the meat variety. There is no steak replacement, but tons of ground beef substitute recipes both commercial and make your own. Even found a "buffalo wing" recipie using califlower instead of chicken.

I try to go meat or fish free a few days a week, in fact today I made a tasty lentil stew Spanish style. The problem I have is that I don't want to eat soya. The chemically produced soya eaten in the Western world is nasty stuff and if you check the ingredients in many veggie products the dreaded soya is nearly always added. In some packaged meats too in fact.
The best I can do in order to eat healthily is avoid processed foods as much as possible and steer clear of sugar, though as with anything an occasional treat can't be too harmful!

I agree with you about the processed soya foods, they're not healthy.
And I'd prefer it if we didn't even talk about Quorn.
abcWOMAN: Why should a vegetarian need an argument for being a vegetarian?
They shouldn't, but they should not try to shame the rest of us either. There is no moral high ground for vegetarians, they are just as guilty as everybody else for killing and eating living things.

Can't understand why anyone would need to shame anyone regarding their lifestyle/religion/eating habits or anything else
Our lives are ours to live as we please and no one has the right to instruct others on how they live theirs.

MrRick77: Is it a valid argument from a Vegetarian when they say they don't eat meat because it was once living ?

Exactly the kind of hypocrisy I was talking about. So birds and fish aren't animals are they? I suppose you're quite happy to eat squid as well are you? Would you be so happy to eat squid if you were aware that some cephalopods (squids and their relatives) are actually more intelligent than your average dog? Of course you would never eat (or kill) dog for meat would you? I bet you only eat line caught fish as well? After all we wouldn't want to harm any of those cuddly dolphins would we? So let's forget about the suffering of the fish with a hook jammed in their mouth, left defenceless and terrified, yes fish do feel fear and also do suffer from stress, before being dragged onto the deck of a boat and, eventually, being bludgeoned to death. But, hey, as you point out you don't have anything to do with killing animals do you?
