Wiki..says the same, Oobie...done by party election first day of session.

Nice try.:-)

You got me digging.

After the election ran by the clerk of the house. The procedures come into play. The elected speaker begins to assign member to committee.
Hence the power of the speaker.

The house speaker is voted on every 2 years with a new congress.

And anyone (who meets certain criteria) can be speaker of the house...you don't have to be an elected official. Bill Clinton could be speaker of the house even though he holds no elected office.

So when the dems won the house, they put up for vote Pelosi after she was elected out of her democrat committee (I believe Steny Hoyer ran against her). Then the whole house votes...usually party line to elect the speaker.

The Bailout passed in the Senate...has 65 vote still voting.....not sure the final outcome yet.

The House cannot change and add to it.....have to approve with this wording....

Hot_Single_Dude: Why the NO for Palin is so much bigger than the other two?

Does this really mean she is not qualified at all for becomng the "possible " president if the old war monger dude gets too ill all of a sudden to run the job?

Be really careful ladies and gents....... she will get a Witch Hunter coming after you if you dont vote for her

Dude, this has abolsutely nothing to do with Palin and her campaign with McCain for the Presidency.

Has to with how Nancy Polosi got to be speaker in the house. As Speaker she is number three in our Chain of Command for the military, behind....the President, Vice President....

if you read the post....my point was that they DEMs have already given us a number 3 that is poorly qualified to be Commander in Chief.....yet they are making an issue of Palin only being a heart beat way.

I looked this up on Wickie:

"The Speaker is elected on the first day of a new session of Congress. The election is presided over by the Clerk of the House of Representatives and each party nominates a candidate. Whoever receives a simple majority of the votes is elected and, after election, is sworn in by the Dean of the House, the chamber's longest-serving member.

In modern practice, the Speaker is chosen by the majority party in the House; it is usually obvious within two to three weeks of a House election who the new Speaker will be. It is expected that members of the House vote for their party's candidate. If they don't do so, they usually vote for someone else in their party or vote "present." Voting for the other party's candidate is dealt with very severely. For example, when Democrat Jim Traficant voted for Republican Dennis Hastert in the 2001 election for Speaker, the Democrats stripped him of his seniority."

I am with you, Indy.....that $700b is 1/2 of our GNP...at this point they are clueless to where the money is going and to who is getting it and what for.

House members are still getting alot of negative opinion on it.

Newt Grinrich flipped on it. He now supports it.

The DEM house leadership is working the DEMs that voted against to change and support.

Get this...of the Barney's House Banking Committee DEMs....only a couple voted to support it in the first vote.....most rejected their own legislation that they wrote. Why they could not kill it in committee......
someone in the committee had to have a gun pointed at them.

Exactly Oobie. Elected is the key word there. The majority party elects someone as Speaker..so the DEMs "put" Polosi in as the Speaker by this election.

Surely the DEMs had someone with more Commander in Chief and Executive officer expereince to consider than Polosi. Polosi came from the CA State Senate before (pretty sure). That is a fraction of what Palin has in expereince as Gov. of Alaska.

"made it thru"?

I'd be willing to bet if there was a poll to go back to the Clinton years with a budget surplus, no war in Iraq, a bull market where people were making money hand over fist and over 4,000 of our young people alive who are dead now, it would run about 90% in favor. applause

Did anyone see the Katie Couric interview? Palin couldn't name any other supreme court decision other than Roe vs Wade, she talked all around the question everytime Katie gently asked her to name any other supreme court decision she disagreed with.

She also couldn't name anything other than one thing that McCain has ever done in congress. "I'll get back to you on that one" she said.

Asked what newspapers and magazines she reads, Palin - a journalism major in college - could not name one publication.

"I've read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media," she said at first. Couric responded, "What, specifically?"

"Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years."

"Can you name a few?"

"I have a vast variety of source where we get our news," Palin said. "Alaska isn't a foreign country, where it's kind of suggested, 'wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C., may be thinking when you live up there in Alaska?' Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America."

Which is a fine example of her rambling befuddled responses as she plays I can talk circles around anything card.

Palin's got the ambition to be Vice President (or President), but it's pretty clear that she doesn't have a clue why.

Obama is now being brought into the Rezco investigation because of his known ties...
He and his top three economic advisors are now under no less than three separate investigations because the evidence is there...

All of Obama's former associates are in trouble for something or show extreme bad character...

That is not scream "QUALITY" to me

My opinion is that if people feel that Sarah Plain is not qualified to be president of the United States then neither is Obama.
