RE: The French Treat

Let us even disregard the implications of the Veterans Today/Pravda article.
There's also timing.

Historically, the U.S. has been less inclined to international ventures during a political (Presidential election) year - 2016.
And, historically, the old USSR seemed to take advantage of that.
That alone would give Putin something over a year to establish Russia as a major force in combating "terrorism".

doh Good grief! Even I can figure that out!
It'd be incredible to think it escaped the notice of a former KGB Lt. Col.!

All in all...you gotta admit the dots connect.

RE: The French Treat

And...

Israel Today, Aug. 25, '15 - Middle East Leaders Flock to Moscow for Syrian Talks and Arms Expo.

This was concurrent with Secretary Kerry telling us the Iran Deal was the "best we could get".
Russia apparently felt confident the deal would be approved (and $150 billion unfrozen) as it made lucrative deals Iran.
There was a "Rush" of wind & howls from Republicans that the deal was terrible..."unsignable", said Trump...and then it was very quietly implemented.

Yep, Lou, a lot of things are rather rolling Russia's way.
Putin appears quite confident playing, and re-playing that "threat card", eh?
And why not? It's a very effective "chess piece", is it not?

What might the fulfilment of two centuries of dreaming be worth, Lou?
Also power...wealth...control...to which you allude?

Would it be worth a jetliner?
Something more?

Headline: "ISIS threatens attacks inside Russia 'very soon.'"
Will Moscow see such an...incident? St. Petersburg?
How might Russia respond?
How might the world view strong action against..."terrorism"?
With approval, even praise, I should think.

Think chess...how would opponents/potential allies respond to your moves...or your next several moves.

Think martial arts...anticipating an opponent's actions...and directing his actions to your advantage.

YouTube Did Putin's threat just win him the Ukraine

I'd appreciate it if you could put that up, Lou.
If...and again I emphasize IF...there's something to it...
That's a game changer.

War - "Diplomacy by other means."

RE: The French Treat

Russia has wanted a warm water port since the time of Peter the Great.
Could "combating terrorism" provide Putin the justification to finally attain that objective? And maybe acquire some oil rich real estate in the process?

RE: Dreams

I heard of a guy in the Coast Guard who refused to fly on helicopters.
He was very near retirement & needed flight time to qualify for flight pay...
and the amount of his final paycheck would determine the amount of his retirement checks.
There were no available fixed wing flights, so he reluctantly allowed himself to be scheduled to go along on a helicopter flight.
Just one time...
To make sure he got flight pay...
which would increase the amount of his retirement checks.

He never got the chance to take another helicopter flight.

According to Yahoo! Answers, the BEST ANSWER to the DNA/Cell riddle is "No one knows..." dunno

If you search the question, there is much written on the subject...
Can't really say there's an answer, though. writing...dunno

Some cop out by saying protein, RNA, or something like "proto-DNA" came first.
Fine. Then the implication is that these things arranged themselves ( confused ) into DNA, and things got going.
Problem: Even if DNA managed to fabricate itself ( confused ) - without a cell, it would only be "information" (blueprint) with no means to utilize the information to make a cell, or carry on any of the functions of a cell. blues

Others claim a "proto-cell" like thing appeared first and developed DNA to function & reproduce. ( confused )
Fine. Then the implication is that inert matter began assembling itself confused ) into a "cell thingy" with no information on how to do that ( confused ) and began functioning with no information on what it should do. ( confused )
Problem: Without the DNA...a COMPLETE set of DNA with information for reproduction & functioning, even a complex cell, or pre-cell thingy, is just a bunch of stuff that spontaneously assembled itself ( confused ) into a complex, but ultimately useless, structure. ( blues )

Have fun, y'all!!
You may submit your solution to Yahoo! Answers.

Makes that "chicken & egg" poser seem kinda easy, eh?

cowboy

RE: Humans have created a new top predator

@ Kal
DNA is information which might be thought of as the blueprint and operating manual for an organism & it's various cells.
And the DNA is located within the cells.

Remember, DNA is ONLY information that provides instructions a cell needs to reproduce & function.
Again, think of DNA as a blueprint.
It connot, of itself, make a cell, nor perform any cellular function, any more than a blueprint, of itself, can construct a factory, or carry on the work of a factory.

So, in a modern version of "the chicken or the egg" riddle...
Which came first?
DNA?
Or the cell?
How?
