At least the B-36 is no longer around... Six huge radial piston engines. PLUS...four jet engines. Yes. TEN engines. On ONE airplane. (Six turnin' & four burnin'.)
I've never seen/heard one of those take off. It must've been thunderous!
Great pic, Ken! What's the plane... I'm guessing a B25?
Thirty years later, I was among the last aircrew to use the ol' "Mae West". Absolute HELL wearing one of those things with a sunburn!!! ...................
Memorial Day in the United States was begun following the dreadful slaughter of the Civil War (1861-65).
In 1867 the ladies of Columbia, Mississippi decorated the graves of fallen soldiers - Confederate and Union alike. They bore great criticism for decorating the graves of the hated Yankee foe.
That deed inspired Francis Miles Finch to pen the poem, "The Blue and the Grey". It calls us to remember all the fallen, of all wars. For a generation following the Civil War, the poem was read during graveside Memorial Day ceremonies. It is sad this custom has been laid aside.

Not a marriage... Simply a first-time IRL meeting.
No papers signed. No bouquets thrown.
Go back... Re-read my profile.
"...meet a woman... invest time to get to know her... friends...better friends....???.... ? "
This was a week... in her (WARM!! ) location... to meet other than in cyber-space.
I'll be heading back to the frozen North in about 36 hours.
Sooo... How'd it work out? Was the time "invested" to "get to know her" well spent? Would I do it again?
ABSOLUTELY!! In half-a-heartbeat!
Would I suggest other CSers try it? ...Use your own judgement.
Where will things go from here? Don't know. But wherever is hidden behind the curtain of time, I'm elated with my personal cyber-to-IRL "Quantum Leap".
At VERY(!) least... When those "IS THIS SITE REAL?" blogs get posted (and we KNOW they will)... we can now boldly reply... Once upon a time in Florida... it sure as hell was!
(And those 75% off Southwest Airlines fares to Florida didn't hurt, either, I'm tellin' ya!! )
