Ok the best political punidit assessment on Obama' spending freeze I have heard is this.
That he already int eh last two drove teh spending level up so high....the a freeze just keeps them there. Also the freeze he propses is only on 1/4 of the Federal udget. Meaning the other 3/4th are subject to having increased spending.
And the he is not touching any of the DoD and Homeland Security...budgets.....he has already speaded DoD.
Compared to teh Tea Party and REP position that you need a cross the board spending cuts, which is much great than a spending freeze.
So back to Dude here to give us a reason the freeze is sucha good idea.
Plesae don't include the US in the global economic crisis.....we are getting our financial house in order....well some....er...maybe.....er....rats the price of McDonald's in inceasing...
Egypt had another day of street protest. And now street protest are starting in Yemen....to remove the long time leader there.
In Egypt the Muslim Brotherhood made a statement that it supports the street protest and that gov't reform should occur. So with President Obama's support of the street protest in Tunasia and assuming a support to them in Egypt.....
We have the White House and the Muslim Brotherhood on the same side of the issue.....
Washington has not said that about allied Egypt yet. So I maybe am off.....but......it is a strange strange world when this stuff happens.
You think that the US is not trying to improve human rights and lives in Afghanistan? You must have miss the story of the American Christian medical team that was executed by the Taliban several months ago.
Like what interest? Oil? Well yes...I have to admit having the Strait of Hormuz opened to oil traffic is a vital interest to the US. But it will not be the Persian Gulf countries that close it. Iran will.
Even if Iran did....then the under used trans Saudi pipelines would fill much of lose.
But what you really speak of is Iraqi oil. Well....most of the Iraqi oil contract never came to the US. They went to and are going to Europe and China.
Most of our foreign oil supply came from Saudi...27%...if I remember right. It never came from Iraq.
We also keeping Muslim alive Somalia with our food shipments.... ......were buying Saudi crude by the boat load.....and had stabilized the region after Sadam had invaded Kuwait....were flying over Iraq in the no fly zone to monitor Sadam aggression on his Iraqi people.....all prior to 911.
Why don't the majority of moderate Muslims straighten out the religious zealotted and cruel ones? We have had this conversation in the past.....and it got down to Sharia Law inhibited the moderate ones....

The Mushadeen.....were originally set up by Pakistani Musharraeff for his military operation Kargil against India. They were local mountain tribesmen from the Khasmir region. This is on the western side of Pakistan. Entirely different tribes than is on the Afghan/Pakistan tribal region.
So when the Russian invaded Afghanistan in the early 1980s....Musharreff sends the Mushadeen to the other side of the country and with the aid of the Pakistani ISS and military to organize the Pashtons and fleeing Afhgani into Mushadeen freedom fighter against Russia. That the US supported.
So? The Afghan/Russian war ends.
A number war lords via for control of Afghanistan. Including the Northern Alliance. bin Laden and Omar Mohammed are back in Pakistan during this period. There they organize the Taliban....made up of local western Pakistani tribes.
Are some of them former Mushadeen of the Afghanistan/Russian war? Yes. Are all? No. The universities around Peshwar did not get the nicknames...Jhadist U for nothing....a lot of the Taliban that were used to kick out the warring war lord and Northern Allaince...came from the Pehswar schools.
The former Tunisian President Ben Ali....ended up in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi made a big mistake in letting him come in. Riots and protests are going to follow this guy were ever he goes.
Tunisia has issued international warrants for him and his family. Seems he left the country with his pockets full of cash.
While in Egpyt....the call for Mubarak to step down grows. I just picked this up. Remember the UN Atomic Energy Inspector elBraridi? His brother is a dissent of Mubarak's gov't....and had been exiled out the country....with the protest.....just like Baby Doc in Haiti....comes back to Egypt.
In the State of the Union...President Obama welcomed the Tunisian revolution. And Hillary C. is stepping back from full support of Mubarak in Eygpt.
With Egypt one of the US oldest friendly countries in the region....this one has to be dicey in Washington. I am just hoping Mubarak does not seek asylum here in the US. Maybe we can get him a Iranian Visa......and nudge the Saudi to give Ben Ali a one ticket to Iran as well.

President Obama is so enthrawaled with investment (please read into that spending, wall street, banking and big corporations)...that he proposed to lower the corporate tax rate.
At which point upper liberals across the country that were hoping for social change, economic restructuring and wealth redistribution were throwing shoes at their TVs.
I did get a sense of new dignity in the address as both VP Biden and Speaker Boehner stayed sitting during the address. I was very concerned for Biden's knees giving way when paired with spring boarding Pelosi.
84 standing ovation were given....which is about the norm. But since the house was mixed in seating....it was a full standing ovation often. Which I thought was fine compliment to the new Washington toned down tone after the Gibbons shooting.
Whether it will stay that way into the next year....is anyone's quess....but it was nice to see McCain sitting beside Kerry or Kerry sitting beside McCain given your political need for first billing.
President Obama did bounce into the immigration issue, into a five year spending freeze, into multiple government agency governance. Personally I thought the smoked salmon joke was a good one....considering the formal diner of recent. But there is a tremendous number of over lapping government agencies.
Paul Ryan gave a very good counter point address for the Tea Party/REP. His discussion of a 'tipping point' on fiscal deficit is dead on. We are at this point of 'no return' on fiscal responsibility. We either buck up and make more income or settle back to have less. Take your pick. The latter is bad for our children.
Since the new buzz word from Washington is "investment"...I think I will go down talk to my broker and see if he has any good investments.....to make some hard earned cash with. From President Obama's Clintonesk government.

Our founding father formed a Army and Navy to protect and defend the country. If was a US Army staffer doing the pat down at the airport security instead of TSA.....that is still in the defense of the country....considering how aircraft have been used to attack it.
All they (Congress) did with the Patriot act was to form a new agency specific and mandated for this defense. And gave it the funding, resources and the direction to operate.
And many US government agencies have specific area to protect the country. Custom...the inspect of goods and person entering the country. The CIA to collect intelligence on foreign threats. The Agri Department to protect and make safe the food supply of the country. Each one operates under a Congressional legislated mandate.
While part of these mandates might be unConsituational...not proven till you have the case raised in court can it be determined. Is the Patriot act perfectly Constitutional? No. None of it is. There is not a mandating piece of legislation that fits all the criteria of Constitutionality. But do you want to do away with them? To the potential lost of your life, liberty and happiness?
We have to be as practical as our founding fathers were. If they had the chance to employ battle carrier group to defeat the British fleet, they would have done it. They used American slang to weed out British spies. But we cannot use biometrics of today to weed out a incoming Islamic terrorist? Because it not mentioned in the Constitution?
By the way...a great question to ask your REP...why we citizens will have bio metric passports but those entering the country don't have bio metric visa? Because back in 2001 soon after 911, this lad proposed biometric visas to them.

I was not in the New Orleans area to know. I will tell this. They had a heck of mess. They were fortunate that the death toll and the rioting was not vastly more.

Did they confiscate some weapons that were not used in sniping? Likely. Did they regain control of a city that was near totally to breaking down? Yes. To do that they had to move people to high ground and away from the flooding. The sniper fire was keeping them from doing so.

We know the biggies by name.I am talking about knowing them so well, you can put a military operation on them. Actionable intelligence of who, were, when, why. That we don't have. Or did not have.

But Islamic terrorism is bigger than the names mentioned. It is also 'some' Sect leaders, 'some' gov't leader, 'some' military officers and ncos. But not all 1.3b Muslims. How do we find the 'some'?
When our marine corp platoon or army platoon takes on a Taliban unit in the mountains of Afghanistan. How did that Taliban unit get supplied? get paid? what is there mission? their base of operations?
Heck they cannot tell you if bin Laden is in Afghan, Pakistan or Iran. Who is his funders and his suppliers are? They are clueless to his next operation. Or what will motive it.
But on the Katrina question. I saw US Coast helo lifting distressed Americans off roof tops. Dropping water and food to them. I saw the late US navy task sent to provide aid to the Gulf Coast. I did not see the US military gunning down or controlling the American populace. I have no prolbem with the US military doing human relief work in the country.
I saw Katrina the night before hit she hit. From about 200 miles away. I have seen a lot of storm and weather. Nothing like this. I estimate the storm cells went up to 60-70K feet. Your average T-storm is 45,000. The Gulf coast got hit with the estimate energy of 4 nuclear devices. I have no problem in seeing the US military provide relief assistance.
