Maybe the bracketed part of that question is the answer? Not being able to be alone is a problem. Not having contentment and thinking some other 'perfect' person is going to give it to you is the problem.
So it's not a choice then unless your freind is barring you from having a relationship. It sounds a bit dissociative to think you can only have one or the other.
Some of the many things I think are more important than 'friends' or relationship;
Peace of mind Contentment Good health Wealth Safety and security Intelligence Understanding Wisdom Cats Horses Enough food to eat Joy A sense of thankfullness for being alive
And the best thing about the above things is that they're not either or. They are not exclusive, they are inclusive. You CAN have them all .... but probably not if you're chasing 'friends' and a 'relationship'. Or maybe you would only chase 'friends' and a 'relationship' if you don't have any of the above and feel that 'friends' and a 'realationship' will somehow make you feel less empty.
