I don't believe them either. After Libya and Syria I'm a bit cautious about the Al Thani Network. Hey, if there's footage and a recovered weapon then fair enough but they need to work of their target practice if they shot 11 other unarmed guys.
Al Jewzeera? Not the most reliable. Did they show a recovered weapon. Surely after that hail of gunfire they would have hit the target and taken control of the weapon? Sounds like well over 100 rounds.
Yeah well if it's any consolation I think they are just sharing made up stories to 1) apprear other than they are or 2) to elicit others to share personal stories. Tell a story to hear a story, that's an old interrogation technique.
First they beat you, then stone you, then they put tyres around your neck, cover you in petrol and stone you some more while you burn. Did the Dunnes Stores workers ever protest this?
Look how the ANC Government handle miners? Where is the outcry from the lefties who protested injustices in South Africa for decades? The Communist ANC is way worse than the whites were when it comes to brutality but nobody says a word.
Yes, I would think so but she clearly said SEVENTY THOUSAND. That's only part of it. She also claimed at least twice as many women as men were attempting suicide when in fact the figures for self-harm and attempted suicide for women is only 15% more. She was being interviewed because the CSO figures released that day showed a 7% increase in suicides and a rate of 84% for men. She played down the male aspect and said we shouldn't get bogged down in it. So, taking her distortion of the other facts into account it is hard to accept the 70,000 figure was an error. In the context of her other 'incorrect facts'.
That is not fair. The Taliban are nothing like the Feminists, especially the hard core nutters in Sweden. I would sooner live under Taliban law anyday.
The US want him alright. There is a grand jury inquiry and an FBI case open on him. That came out at the Bradley Manning trial. They have his associate Manning in some horrid conditions over there. Making him stand naked for hours outside his solitary confinement cell and all kinds of sick stuff.
Assange released thousands of US Military documents showing their war crimes and they want his blood. And the videos.... they were the worst. I remember the one he released where thy butchered 12 journalists, even the ones trying to remove the injured and dying. God help him if they get their hands on him
Yes, that's what the woman at the NOSP told me. The hospitals lump them together. The total is 9,630 not 70,000. Maybe Joan Freeman meant to say 7,000 not 70,000? That could explain it. A slip of the tongue? Hardly her trying to sensationalise the figures? Noooooooo!
Can you imagine the hospitals with 70,000 attempted suicides a year coming it. I would be like Sarajevo in 1994.
On Drivetime, RTE Radio 1, July 11, 2012 Joan Freeman CEO of Pieta House was interviewed by Philip Boucher Hayes about that days headline;
CSO FIGURES SHOW SUICIDES UP 7% AND 84% SUICIDES ARE AMONGST MEN
Here is what Freeman said. It is available on RTE records:
“Men would tend to use more lethal methods of taking their lives. They would either hang themselves or something very immediate. Women tend to take overdoses. Twice as many women will attempt to take their lives than(sic) men. Of course men find it very difficult to express their emotions or express when they are going through difficulties and I suppose in particular they are terrified about confidentiality, stigma, all that sort of thing. It’s really important that we don’t get bogged down in the fact that men show the highest rate. We have to remember approximately 70,000 people every single year attempt suicide."
Boucher Hayes; "are you saying the majority of those, two thirds of those, will be women attempting suicide?"
Freeman; "I don’t have the figures on hospital presentations or attempted suicide … what I’m saying … the figures come from the National Office of Suicide Prevention saying twice as many women, at least twice as many women will attempt to take their life … the methods that men use are quite dangerous"
So we shouldn't care or "get bogged down" that 84% of those who take their own lives are men because "twice as many women, at least twice as many women will attempt to take their life"?
Luckily for us we do have the figures from the National Office of Suicide Prevention which Joan quoted so knowingly. Their latest report was for 2010 and is here
"The female rate of deliberate self harm in 2010 was 13% higher than the male rate as it was in 2009. The gender difference had been decreasing in recent years. The female rate was 37% higher in 2004-2005, 32-33% higher in 2006-2007 and 24% higher in 2008"
What? 13% higher? Not "at least" 100% higher? Joan said it was, ""twice as many women, at least twice as many women"? Well that had me stumped so I got on to a nice lady in the NOSP and queried this. She assured me the figures were correct and that female suicide attempts AND self-harm were decreasing even though suicides overall were rising. I said, "this must mean the rate of increase in male suicide is more than the 7% national increase the CSO announced today. She agreed. She also told me that in her opinion the since the figures for deliberate self-harm and attempted suicide as reported by hospitals are not separated, the majority of self-harm i.e. slashing, cutting and even deliberate alcohol overdoses were among women.
"So this must mean the rates for female attempted suicide and not just deliberate self-harm is actually less than for males not twice as many", I asked. The NOSP lady would not be drawn into speculation on that point, especially when I told her what Freeman had said on the public record.
I wonder about Joan’s facts now. I wonder is it really men’s own fault that they "find it very difficult to express their emotions"? Does Pieta House, who receives our tax money, have its eye off the ball on this? Men are dying in ever increasing numbers and its CEO tells us to ignore this and not ger "bogges down" in it becuase we should focus on women, who it turns out are doing better each year???
Freeman also said quite clearly "We have to remember approximately 70,000 people every single year attempt suicide."
Page 30 of the above NOSP report for 2010 states that figure as 9,630 with 1,316 repeats. 9,630 a long way short of 70,000. And if "twice as many women, at least twice as many" of these are women then somewhere there are 40,000 missing women between Joan’s version of the situation and the NOSP figures. Can anyone explain please?
Did you know that a special European Parliament committee established to investigate European complicity in extraordinary rendition and the unlawful detention of terrorism suspects by the US government also targeted Sweden as directly complicit in the transfer of men for torture? It's in that last link. I really don't think that is legal in any European country
Sweden has already sent people who were illegally detained on to the US and it's secret rendition bases. They have been openly exposed as having conspired and colluded with rendition flights. They never asked for any guarntees the kidnapped prisoners wouldn't be executed. In fact some of those kidnapped men are facing the death penalty in Guantanamo Bay Concentration Camp.
RE: ELECTRIC PICNIC
No, this one is fine. Safe as houses. Bring your wellies and cagoule though. It's going to be a swamp
