I can respect your opinion but I see it much differently. I'm not a Trump fan as such but I couldn't stand Obama or Clinton. We all to to chose what we believe or don't believe. We have to get along with people who see things differently. I like small government and a government that lives within its means. Neither party do a that. PS Killery? Not from me.
They didn't take land without compensation back then. Go back and reread the thread. Also I don't get that white guy singing in your video next to Mandela. Mandela's wife Winnie was more of a hater IMO.
I can understand how you feel. Here is a little historical information. The Dutch East India Company established a small settlement at what is now Cape Town in 1652. The initial purpose of the settlement was to provide a rest stop and supply station for trading vessels making the long journey from Europe, around the cape of southern Africa, and on to India and other points eastward. It was easy for the Dutch to establish the Cape area settlement as it was pretty much uninhabited. The tribe that lived in the area and who would really have a claim to the land if anyone were the Khoikhoi aka Hottentot. The Zulu and Xhosa tribes who are the most populous tribes today, lived elsewhere back then. Nelson Mandela was from the Xhosa tribe. I think the Hottentot were a small people who have vanished today. The tribes that dominate South African politics today actually moved to the area after the Dutch and English improved conditions for living there. They may have been living in parts of what is now called South Africa, but not the Cape area. At least that is the way I understand it. Anyone who has more knowledge of the history please correct any errors I may have made.
Sorry was just trying to make light of it. Here is the new leader saying it will come to pass. I think he is being a bit optimistic about the results, but time will tell. They already have a serious water problem that should have been avoided. The people's faces speak volumes.
It's a big diverse country with lots of natural wonders. It's actually pretty safe here despite the trouble makers. Come on over any time. Experience it for yourself.
I think it might be best if the whites just leave South Africa but many have been there so long they don't really have a home country to return too. I tried to help a couple immigrate here and was going to give them work. US immigration denied their visa applications. I spent about $10K on lawyers and still lost. There seems to be a bias against white South Africans here in the USA. I have some friends who were allowed into Ecuador.
Well there really wasn't much wealth before the white farmers came to SA. They didn't treat the blacks very well, but the blacks living there didn't treat other tribes very well either. They also attacked and killed boer farmers. Apparently most of the blacks now living there immigrated there, from other parts of Africa. after the whites created a higher standard of living for all. White engineering and medicine allowed their numbers to swell. It's a much more complicated story than just a bunch of mean white people getting what they deserve. The white South African expats I have met all seem like decent folk. This story doesn't need to get avoided. South Africa may need help sorting this one out.
Not much just watching videos and wondering where the world is headed too. Spring is coming I need to get to working more on my farm. You get ready for planting season?
That was already tried in Zimbabwe with disastrous results, so you are right about the poor not benefiting. That paper may be trying to sell copy, but the facts are being presented other places too. Watch the video if you can find the time. It isn't boring I can assure you that. Sounds like that girl put her like in danger to get out a story everyone else in the media is very happy to ignore or whitewash, all in the name of being PC.
Mandela let the white South Africans keep there land and property. Now it is going to be confiscated without compensation from the farmers first. You should watch that video, I don't know if it is true but they talk about white kids living in squatters camps now and their parents unable to find work. It is a very inconvenient to talk about these things I realize. Even Fox news avoid it. But my friends from Namibia still have family living on farms in South Africa and they are very worried I can assure you that.
Hi Ali. I would love to see Cape Town and table mountain and of course the big game parks. Most of what I know about South Africa comes from talking to friends who left there. They happen to be English and Afrikaners. I don't know any black South Africans, but I would love to talk with some. I did read the Covenant by Michener which helped me understand some of the issues and challenges people there faced. We should all be keeping an eye on how things get sorted over there IMO.
Anyone is free to post and give their opinion, it fact it is encouraged. It wasn't really meant to be a racial thread. I was seeing people being attacked for religious beliefs and it made me start thinking about tolerance and what it means. I did read your post and I thank you for making it.
'We are not calling for the slaughter of white people - at least for now': South African parliament votes to SEIZE white-owned land as experts warn of violent repercussions White South African farmers to be removed from their land after parliament vote The motion for 'expropriation without compensation' passed by a landslide It was brought about by Julius Malema who said white farmers are 'criminals'
What's your definition of tolerance?
That ought to get you a lot of laughs.
