RE: HOW MUCH IS IMPORTANT OPINION OF YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT YOUR PARTNER?

The opinions of my friends regarding a partner and any other part of my life matters nothing to me.

RE: TOO MANY COMPLIMENTS?

I enjoy the common courtesy and the nice compliments and to recieve them makes my day especially when someone holds a door for me really lifts up my mood.

I think sometimes people do get their feathers ruffled too easily these days when a man pays them a compliment. We need to stop being so politically correct about every speck in life.

RE: What Does Christmas Mean For You?

I've always enjoyed doing for others who are less fortunate than myself.

Alot of those residents don't have families who ever visit them.
I guess you could say I've made them my family.

RE: What Does Christmas Mean For You?

As most of you know I lost my husband acouple years ago because of lung cancer and it was a very sad time for me but I managed to get through it.

This last year I began my own home based business and buried myself in my work and began volunteering part time in a nursing home near my home by serving the residents who reside there holiday meals which keeps me pretty occupied so I'm not dwelling soley on my loss.

This holiday season I'll most likely be doing the very same thing as last year helping out at the nursing home.

RE: What do u expect to get on ur first date??

I'd expect to get a 2nd date out of it and possibly many more to come.

RE: Making A Difference In The World

I volunteer every year during the holiday season to help serve meals to residents who reside in a nursing home near my home.

RE: why do people argue

I think people argue because they don't have enough sense to quit when they're ahead.Nor do they know how to just agree to disagree and move on.Plus they always have to be right and have the very last word.

RE: women's Life

I've heard that women outlive the men. Then why sometimes are there men who are widowers?

Tory's letter to Santa and asking for a man for Christmas.

laugh laugh Now Pat like you often post from time to time ,just what part did you happen to play in why noone wishes to love you.

RE: ANother bad day????????????????????????

I have bad days and good days but don't try to stress myself out about the bad days.

I just put the bad days on the back burner so to speak and go on.No sense in dwelling on them.

Tory's letter to Santa and asking for a man for Christmas.

Thank you.

I was in a hurry this morning when I posted this and left out acouple of things.

There was a part where Tory had told her co-worker Rose that she didn't believe in Santa Claus.Rose told Tory that that would be a problem. He doesn't bring gifts to epople who don't believe.

Rose told Tory to write a letter to Santa anyway and tell him that she'd been a good girl all year.

First Tory wrote:Dear Santa
Can you bring me a man for Christmas this year?It was silly, but now she was in the spirit.Make him tall, with blond hair and blue eyes, and strong enough to carry me across the threshold when we get married.

Then later on she stated to her co-worker Rose that the man would probably say he wants a thin model type who drives a Porche.

After the custodian left who'd earlier came into the Dollar store to purchase some gifts for the students at his school, Tory then wrote another letter to Santa stating that the teacher who's now a custodian lost his teaching job, then takes one pushing a broom to stay connected to his friends and students. He also isn't worried about himself-but instead worried about disappointing the kids if he doesn't give all of them gifts.

As I read the Fictional Romance I didn't read into it that Tory was just settling.I did feel that she was very insecure regarding herself and that there may be the possiblity that no man would want to have anything to do with a woman like her who was short,20 lbs overweight and who's also insecure about her job in a Dollar store.

I think it's a shame and so sad that some women and sometimes men as well have low self esteem about themselves that they feel that unless they're perfect noone will want them.

Tory's letter to Santa and asking for a man for Christmas.

Dear Santa

Tory's letter to Santa helped her discover what love is really all about.

What I want for Christmas is man Tory signed. "I can't face the holidays alone."
So Tory's co-worker Rose suggests she ask Santa for a man for Christmas. So Tory writes a letter requesting
a gorgeous, fantasy man,but she immediately feels wistful becasue that type of man would probably
never be interested in her.

Then in walks an average guy who wants to buy gifts for the little kids at his school where he used to be a teacher, but because of layoffs is now working as a custodian. In the coruse of the converstaion, he remarks"I keep hoping some nice lady will put me on her wish list, but I don't think anyone would be ineterest in an unemployed teacher."

As he's getting ready to leave he invites Tory and Rose to the school holiday program and leaves.

After the man leaves Tory realizes that the custodian is more inclined with what she really wants for Christmas.

First Tory wants a man for Christmas. After she determines that she wants someone rich, handsome, and strong,
we get the conflict:she feels she's undesireable(short,20 lbs overweight, has a sucky job.)Then the hero comes in.
He has sparkly brown eyes. He's not married, which is always a fact that you have to establish in these "first meet" stories.
He's dedicated to his (ex-) job.Through some clever conversation the man confesses that he's wanting a lady for Christmas.
Lastly he leaves the flyer for the school holiday event, which acts as the plot device so that Tory can contact him/see him again.

Tory realizes how shallow and insincere she was when she jotted that letter to Santa, hence the character grows during the course of this story.
Each of her worries about her own flaws, the hero has. She's overweight and he's losing his hair. She's insecure about her job,he's a custodian.
Even though Tory is sad when she says this."I wonder if some man is writing a list of things he's looking for in a woman.
Do you think he'd say he wanted a short,brown-haired woman who's 20 lbs overweight and who works in an 'everything's Dollar Store?"

Tory told Rose that maybe she should've written in her letter to Santa that she wanted a man who was kind, thoughtful and generous and who has a nice smile.

So Tory decideds to attend that school program and tell the man that she put him on her wish list for Christmas. But at the same time Rose said but he's the opposite of everything you asked Santa for in your letter she reminded Tory. He's also on the short side Rose cautioned.Tory smiled and looked at Rose and said he's not that short.

Tory smiled back at Rose as she was walking out the door of the store and said "Know what I guess I do believe in Santa after all."

RE: What is the real motives behinf the U.S. miltary presence in Afghanistan?

I know alot of our soliders have volunteered to go and fight but I often wonder sometimes just how many of our young men and women have to pay with their lives until we actually know.

I doubt if we'll ever ever know at least not in this lifetime anyhow.

RE: What scents/smells bring back good memories for you?

The smell of Cinnamon which was what my mother use to put in her cinnamon rolls.

BBC - American government told other governments about Afghan invasion IN JULY 2001.
US 'planned attack on Taleban'

The wider objective was to oust the Taleban

By the BBC's George Arney

A former Pakistani diplomat has told the BBC that the US was planning military action against Osama Bin Laden and the Taleban even before last week's attacks. Niaz Naik, a former Pakistani Foreign Secretary, was told by senior American officials in mid-July that military action against Afghanistan would go ahead by the middle of October.

Mr Naik said US officials told him of the plan at a UN-sponsored international contact group on Afghanistan which took place in Berlin. Mr Naik told the BBC that at the meeting the US representatives told him that unless Bin Laden was handed over swiftly America would take military action to kill or capture both Bin Laden and the Taleban leader, Mullah Omar.

The wider objective, according to Mr Naik, would be to topple the Taleban regime and install a transitional government of moderate Afghans in its place - possibly under the leadership of the former Afghan King Zahir Shah. Mr Naik was told that Washington would launch its operation from bases in Tajikistan, where American advisers were already in place.

He was told that Uzbekistan would also participate in the operation and that 17,000 Russian troops were on standby. Mr Naik was told that if the military action went ahead it would take place before the snows started falling in Afghanistan, by the middle of October at the latest.

He said that he was in no doubt that after the World Trade Center bombings this pre-existing US plan had been built upon and would be implemented within two or three weeks. And he said it was doubtful that Washington would drop its plan even if Bin Laden were to be surrendered immediately by the Taleban.

MSNBC - Afghanistan war plans were on Bush's desk on 9/9/2001

President Bush was expected to sign detailed plans for a worldwide war against al-Qaida two days before Sept. 11 but did not have the chance before the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, U.S. and foreign sources told NBC News. ... The plan dealt with all aspects of a war against al-Qaida, ranging from diplomatic initiatives to military operations in Afghanistan, the sources said on condition of anonymity.

In the summer of 2001, while the American media kept the people distracted with "All Condit All The Time", the US Government was informing other governments that we would be at war in Afghanistan no later than October.

RE: What is the real motives behinf the U.S. miltary presence in Afghanistan?

Just finished reading a article about how the Afghanistan War was planned months before 9/11 attacks.

News Article dated June 26,2001 That India was in the Taliban military plan. India and Iran will "facilitate" the planned U.S-Russia hostilities against the Taliban.

Also June 26,2001,India Reacts - American government told other governments about Afghan invasion IN JUNE 2001.
In this article published in India in the summer of 2001 the Indian Government announces that it will support America's PLANNED military incursion into Afghanistan.

India in anti-Taliban military plan

India and Iran will "facilitate" the planned US-Russia hostilities against the Taliban.

By Our Correspondent

26 June 2001: India and Iran will "facilitate" US and Russian plans for "limited military action"
against the Taliban if the contemplated tough new economic sanctions don't bend Afghanistan's fundamentalist regime. The Taliban controls 90 per cent of Afghanistan and is advancing northward along the Salang highway and preparing for a rear attack on the opposition Northern Alliance from
Tajikistan-Afghanistan border positions.

Indian foreign secretary Chokila Iyer attended a crucial session of the second Indo-Russian joint working group on Afghanistan in Moscow amidst increase of Taliban's military activity near the Tajikistan border. And, Russia's Federal Security Bureau (the former KGB) chief Nicolai Patroshev is visiting Teheran this week in connection with Taliban's military build-up.

Indian officials say that India and Iran will only play the role of "facilitator" while the US and Russia will combat the Taliban from the front with the help of two Central Asian countries, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, to push Taliban lines back to the 1998 position 50 km away from Mazar-e-Sharief city in northern Afghanistan.

Military action will be the last option though it now seems scarcely avoidable with the UN banned from Taliban controlled areas. The UN which adopted various means in the last four years to resolve the Afghan problem is now being suspected by the Taliban and refused entry into Taliban areas of the war ravaged nation through a decree issued by Taliban chief Mullah Mohammad Omar last month.
