I do think the distance thing can be daunting. If neither person is willing or able to travel, then what?
I value my friendships here. If I never have a date, I really could care less. If any of my friends are in my vinitity at any time, I love to meet them.
Plus, as Alex says, meeting can be wonderful and a relationship doesn't have to be a classic dating scenerio.
I agree, Cherie. I have so many times given up what I want and need. I've found that life must have soon kind of balance - some way to treat yourself to what you want but also protecting and giving to your family and especially children.
There must be some way of doing that.
And remember, a happy mother treats her children with a smile on her face. The children don't have to be acquainted with the person who gives her the smile.
So, being American and knowing very little about hockey, I did research :)
March 18, 1892, at a dinner of the Ottawa Amateur Athletic Association. Lord Kilcoursie, a player on the Ottawa Rebels hockey club from Government House, delivered the following message on behalf of Lord Stanley, the Earl of Preston and Governor General of Canada:
"I have for some time been thinking that it would be a good thing if there were a challenge cup which should be held from year to year by the champion hockey team in the Dominion (of Canada)."
Shortly thereafter, Lord Stanley purchased a silver cup measuring 7 ½ inches high by 11 ½ inches across for the sum of 10 guineas (approximately $50); appointed two Ottawa gentlemen, Sheriff John Sweetland and Philip D. Ross, as trustees of that cup.
The first winner of the Stanley Cup was the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association (AAA) hockey club, champions of the Amateur Hockey Association of Canada for 1893. Ironically, Lord Stanley never witnessed a championship game nor attended a presentation of his trophy, having returned to his native England in the midst of the 1893 season. Nevertheless, the quest for his trophy has become one of the world's most prestigious sporting competitions.
So now I know the early history of this trophy.
Still don't know who will win it this year. I must leave it up to you hockey buffs to decide :)
And no pouncing until mutually agreed to be appropriate LOL
To the point, yes, be friendly at the grocery store, gas station, etc. In a small town like mine that works well. Word gets around that you are nice and suddenly you get friends and maybe more.
I am financially secure and I feel lucky to be that way. I believe it's not what you have, but what you do.
If you want to make a lot of money and work hard and love what you do, good for you. If you want to do something that doesn't make a lot of money and love what you do, again, good for you.
I like people who are doing something - WANT to do something - contribute to the world.
I would not be comfortable with a person who is a couch potato.
