It has been estimated that only 7% of the written word makes up your take on a person and the rest is perception.In rl and face to face that rises only to about 15% the rest is made up of body language and manorisms,tone of voice and looks.
So its litte wonder that online dating produces so few long lasting relationships per the amount of dates it produces.

I think that its easy to misconstrue the contents of the written word.
Something said tongue in cheek can be taken very differently.Someone playing devils advokate can easily be read taken as if what they say is what they think on a subject.
Wthout the benifits of physical presence and tone of voice so much can be mistaken.
Add to that a persons posting style and sense of humour in there written words its very easy to gain a false picture of a poster.
