I do not know about the details of criminal law but criminals in prisons should work, sorry about your Father having to participate in a war that must be a non pleasant memory to keep.
In fact laws should be modified so criminals (which ever nationality) ought to work in prison, getting paid of course to have a starter money once they get out and they (the criminals) should have to study something as well as a requirement for all.

In real life my friends and I (and being friends for over 20 years..) we would disagree in many subjects yet we look forward to meet again to enjoy our time, fix the world and then plan the next gathering

There are many factors for a person's phenotype expression. Obesity is not exclusive of any economic strata and eating disorders applies as well.
For a person to be fit or not: Genetics is first, then nourishment, then micro-economics (eating healthy can be expensive in developed countries), type of life, hormones, internet time, motivations, ...etc. and etc
Excess weight is not good for health and in the run people have to pay for it: diabetes, heart diseases, etc..but if anyone thinks that overweight is the worst condition think twice.
With the media promoting thinness some people fail into eating disorders and I have seen the friend of one of my children being hospitalized because of anorexia. She felt fat even though she was thin and she was never happy and Anorexic people undergo loss of muscular mass that will not gain ever again.
Eating well is the best approach and forget the statistics.
I do not see any problem with any subject (including Politics and religion to some extent) as long as people make their point and if there is a disagreement, well agree to disagree.
The problem is when people try/want to change other people's opinion -just because- with not even sound evidences/proof and they keep posting day and night, post after post, thread after thread (the same) and the worst the writing gibberish that shows not only a lack of skills in the language as well as incoherence to the subject, just for the sake of posting.
The above applies also to the religious nuts from which ever religion, if someone does not publicaly accept their "beliefs" then you are against them and there are some Christians/Catholics here as well that keep pushing their Agenda. If my God is mighty I do not need to justify or defend that superior entity and to least in this platform.
Another example: if I am not Anti-Muslim automatically people deduct that I am pro-Muslim and that is inaccurate. I just do respect their way of living and their beliefs and hate will not change them. Ancient civilizations developed the concept of the Zero and in that I develop my stance. I am not in favor but I am not against, they have to walk their own path.
I am pro-migrant (including all nationalities) according to the laws and in no way I would support a criminal, being a nacional or an immigrant and certainly I would not support white collar criminals either.
Any subject can be interesting from an sound/scientific debate to a just humorous approach.
No way I would fill my tax income report not even for the monthly statement it is just so complicated that there are lots of Accounting people who do the job.
Yet, I am changing Accountant because how come this kitty got such a refund and I did not although the annual balance was just ok and I had not to pay more.
