Happy Easter

I know Easter is celebrated many different ways in different countries. Here is my thinking with this thread, since I love to cook, I thought it might be interesting to find out what you all do in your country to celebrate, what kinds of foods, traditions, etc.

I'd really be interested in finding out about traditional dishes served, to sort of get my creative side thinking about something different I could serve my family this year, so feedback and info is interesting.

In US, or rather my family, we celebrate by doing an Easter egg hunt with my youngest, my nephew and a few younger cousins, and friends little kids.

As far as food goes, my Mom is more traditional and we have a roasted lamb and a honey/maple/brown sugar cured ham, mashed potatoes, corn bread, macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole, deviled eggs, potato salad (mustard for my Mom and I make the traditional German potato salad with bacon), corn on the cob, and a few other dishes.

This year, I'm in charge of desserts, so I'm making a lemon meringue pie, coconut cake and tiramisu..and cheesecake!

Just interested in finding out about different cultures, foods and celebrations, thank you in advance for sharing! and

Happy Easter!

RE: who is going to want me now?

Hi OP...you are very young and while you do have a lot of kids, that is not going to stop a man from loving you and them as a package.

You've been through a great deal in your past and you're about to have another life-changing event in the near future--for now, focus on yourself and your children.

When you are ready to have a relationship, someone will come along and be more than happy, ready and willing to love you and accept your children too-don't worry and in the meantime, be good to yourself.

Take things in your life slower, be more proactive about the type of men you allow into your life and above all, when the right one comes along, it is something you will feel with every fiber of your being and you'll know it instinctively.

Trust yourself enough to let go---there's someone out there for everyone and you WILL find a man when you're ready. Best of luck to you on the new babies and I hope you have a happy, healthy, beautiful set of twins! Congrats to you!

RE: Pharma and Vaccine Quackery

As with any type of medical drug or vaccine, there are going to be possible side effects/adverse reactions, but the good it does must outweigh the bad before the government FDA will approve it to be safe for use in humans.

You say what you will about the supposed link between Autism and vaccines, but there is no definitive, established proof it raises the risks at all.

If medical science did not develop certain vaccines, things like Polio and small pox would still be running rampant and killing people in the US, but it's not because of vaccines.

Some parents are strongly vocal about the cons of vaccination, but have you actually seen a person that contracts tetanus?? It is certain death and it is very painful...you want your kids to go through that because you don't agree with vaccines?

Vaccines are a "preventative" for a certain disease and not a cure, but rather something given to people to stop the spread of diseases which at one point in time ruled the world and killed countless numbers.

I've had my vaccinations, as have my two children, and I believe in the merits of preventative medicine because I've seen what can happen when a person is not vaccinated and it's not pretty. JMHO.

RE: Is it too much to ask??

It sometimes seems it's easier for someone to solicit advice here, and though sometimes it can backfire terribly, most members are more than willing to be bluntly honest and straightforward, which I have found to be immensely helpful! hug teddybear

I still stand by my original thoughts too OP..run like the devil!

RE: Michael Jackson

Right, it's downright shocking isn't it!conversing laugh wave

RE: Michael Jackson

We already know the truth, he paid one of his victims off in a civil suit, not because he was "innocent," but because he knew what would happen if the kids story ever got out.

RE: women

If the face covering is causing issue, then banning a headdress may be the only option available. If you are in a certain country and rules of dress dictate something different than what you are used too, you are a guest in that country and you observe their cultural preferences/ways, out of respect.

However, I'm assuming these Muslim people may be citizens of France, which again, I feel they should acclimate to the culture they are a part of as they have chosen to leave their country of origin and are now a French citizen and should be respectful and cognizant of that fact.

However, religious observance is still allowed in the home and in church/mosque/synagogue am I correct? There are plenty of opportunities to pray/dress and worship as a Muslim, but when in public, people should assimilate themselves out of cultural deference.

JMHO.

In America, there are many examples of how certain colors worn in certain parts of the country can be associated with gangs and may bring unwanted attention and even spur violence.

Kids in schools are killed for their clothing choices, shoes, etc. so many have now taken the approach of requiring uniforms, which are not inflammatory towards any one culture, group, social class..sort of an equalizer of sorts in the classroom. Many schools are having good results.

(Two examples off the top of my head)

In a perfect society, people wouldn't have to be legally "told" what to wear, penalized or judged, but utopia does not exist and the world is imperfect and that's just facts.

RE: women can be crule sometimes

I would never feel the need to resort to "entrap" any man, either he would want to be with me of his own freewill or not-I want a real relationship, not a dictatorship.

I also wouldn't presume or assume anything just because of a few simple email exchanges either, that reeks of emotional immaturity and to me signifies someone "desperate," to be in a relationship for all the wrong reasons.

Not for me.
grin

RE: women can be crule sometimes

It works both ways...and just because a lady doesn't happen to want a relationship with you doesn't necessarily make her cruel.

Better luck next time....

RE: what would u do?

I second your entire post!!! Well said!!! Perfect explanation!thumbs up thumbs up thumbs up

RE: what would u do?

Better explanation you asked about overlooking someone's physical appearance in lieu of the person being intelligent and had a good personality---for me basically, I'd have to have something that would make me want to see him again (and it would NOT be based solely on physical attraction) and if we didn't "connect" on some level so to speak, why would I want to have another date?

A man can look like an Adonis and having rippling muscles and flowing hair and be physically gorgeous, but if his personality and ability to sustain an intelligent conversation are nil, then looks wouldn't matter, I'd be bored quick...yeah, pretty things are nice to look at, but what is there beyond that to keep me interested for the long term?
