RE: riots in London

There seemed to be a mixture of ethnicities in these riots but of course certain districts - Hackney and Tottenham - have a high percentage of Afro-Carribeans and the Pembury Housing Estate that was shown on tv footage has a very high percentage of this ethnicity. It's their home turf. That is why there was a high percentage of ACs in the Hackney riots and also Tottenham.

RE: riots in London

There seems to be two camps on these forums. Those that think these kids are rioting because of being hard-done-by by the Government, and those that think these kids are rioting because they are simply out of control. As I have posted I go with the latter. They were out for what they could get - even the cash register from a Chinese Take-away food outlet, because they didn't break in for the noodles. They bypassed Waterstones (a book-store chain) and headed for an electrical digital store. They are simply out for fun, and what they can get.

I just heard that one person has died as a result of one of the riots yesterday. RIP

and I so hope the perpetrator is caught and charged.

Now that is the mark of a truely admirable character - female military personnel getting on with the job as good or better than the males without gripes and self-pity. (Take a look at the female IDF personnel - go girls!!!!)

RE: Dating

doh Still not found anyone???

RE: London Riots ..

Am I missing something here? These weren't 'protests' but kids up to - to put it mildly - no good. These 12 year olds weren't rioting because of government cut-backs, they were out to get some goods and get up to no good.

Yes the Afro-Caribbeans have a gripe. They don't like being stopped and searched but tough because us decent people do not like them carrying knives to stab other kids. So stop and search policy stays.

In the inner cities there are no end of clubs and schemes, events, etc., for them but they prefer to hang around with their hoods up on a hot day and swagger down the streets or hang around street corners.

So please, anyone, tell me if I have the wrong end of the stick because there are many on the forums saying it is because of government cut-backs, etc.

RE: What made you smile or laugh today "2" old one full

Knowing what a certain parade of restaurant owners have in mind if the rioters try anything to them. Not sure if I condone it but the thought makes me grin!

RE: London Riots ..

There is a thread about the London riots in the Current Affairs section of the Internationals on here. I don't know whether anyone would like to contribute on there because people overseas are interested and are contributing to that thread.

RE: riots in London

I disagree. This was simply an excuse for youths to let off steam and see what they could grab. The youth are out of control obviously especially in the poorer areas. I live in the area of the riots and these kids have a real attitude problem and no respect for anyone. It's not about recession, cut-backs etc. It is about bored kids with school/college holidays and "having a good time" seeing what they could loot.

RE: riots in London

Not all the police officers in the UK are trained in riot control. Not only that but we have in each neighbourhood several shopping streets spaced with residential streets. Trouble could spark off anywhere and everywhere and can start again as soon as it stops. The yobs are using their cellphones to call others in to an area at a given time.

It is unfair and unrealistic to think the police can be here there and everywhere, and they also need to attend to instances where peoples front doors of their homes are kicked in and threatened or worse.

The Police's job is to protect the public first and foremost. The looters are opportunitistic looking for a quick grab and go.

RE: What's It Like To Be A Navy SEAL

There was a tv programme some months ago about what the SAS have to go through in training. It takes a special person not only physically and in particular psychologically to cope with all that.

RE: London Riots ..

Good morning all!

Much as I hoped it would all be a nightmare, it wasn't. It is real.

The reason I said bring in the army was to free up the police as there aren't enough police trained in riot control and in fact on tv there were police not wearing protective gear in the troubled areas of London. The army could deal with yob dispersal. One woman on tv just now said they kicked-in her front door but luckily she is safe. The police are overstretched and hopefully David Cameron can put tougher measures in place. Tonight could be worse than last night, and Wednesday night even worse. Or it could happen in the daytime when shops are trading and people's lives are at risk.

I brought up my kids on my own from when they were toddlers. We didn't have much money - my kids wanted bikes but never got them as I couldn't afford them. No Playstations, no designer clothes, no drama lessions, no this, no that. But they knew right from wrong and are in their early twenties now. No way knowing how they were ten years ago would they have been of the mindset to join in this thuggery.

I wonder what the parents of these yobs are saying this morning to their kids now their homes are full of goods from Currys Digital, JD Sports. Are they saying they are going to turn their kids in to the Police, because we all know that is what they should do. I bloody would turn my kids in if I saw a nicked 42 inch tv where there wasn't one before. Of course they won't turn their kids in because they are probably threatened by their kids. Or perhaps they slap their kids on the back saying "good job mate" now get us a digital camera, smart phone, I-pad, giving them a "shopping list" to get this evening.

RE: London Riots ..

Thanks for your good wishes Yash. Yes if we had heavy rain there would be no rioters out. There are 30,000 Police in London, but not all trained in riot control. Riots are in pockets of London now but there are no Police around as they are depoloyed in other areas. It is out of control. Ok, toddling off to sleep. Thanks again teddybear

RE: RE: Ye Thought or Rant of the Day!!!

I hear you Sail, I hear you. It's tragic - someone whose business is destroyed from arson in Croydon - they had the business for 5 generations for 150 years and it has gone up in smoke. What with this, and the UK being coerced to accept Sharia I am so glad to be leaving.

I don't blame multiculturism as a lot of people do. I am all for people contributing to society whatever ethnicity - but this is all coming together - the riots, the radical Islamists, the lack of family values etc., right I need some shut-eye. Thanks for your best wishes and concern Sail. Pleased to hear you have made a good life for yourself there. Good luck to you!teddybear

RE: riots in London

Of course the parents have some part of the blame, by not making sure they kids know right from wrong. Appeals are being made on tv for parents to phone their kids to ensure the kids come home. Kids of 10 or 12 years old. And people think the parents are not to blame if the kids are setting fires to cars and garbage bins. No offence to people on here, but London is not the idyllic place of the 1950s you see on old movies. It is an entirely differrent situation here.

RE: London Riots ..

Did you see the footage of Clapham rioters breaking into shops on Sky tv? They don't even care if their faces are shown - bloody arrest the lot of them! Lol, I need to go to bed before my blood pressure rises. Nite!

RE: RE: Ye Thought or Rant of the Day!!!

Thanks Sail, I will and hope all on the UK forums keep and stay safe. I am toddling off to bed now because all this tv footage is doing my head in! Night all!

RE: RE: Ye Thought or Rant of the Day!!!

You are talking about the radical Islams Sail, and yes, there are a severe threat to the UK and it's no good people sticking their heads in the sands and saying it won't happen, because it will! It is the simplest thing to do to convert to Islam and the preachers pick on the youths in prisons and indoctrinate the vulnerable youths who are looking for some direction. I am not talking about all muslims because I know some will say I am being hateful - I am talking about the real threat of radical Islam to the UK. Those who live in inner cities here will know what I mean.

RE: London Riots ..

Never mind laws. Bring the army in because who is to say this will be the last day of the riots. The army need to be brought in because the Police are overstretched. To say it is like a war-zone is not an overstatement. I can see the looters in Clapham now and no Police are there because the Police are elsewhere and there are not enough riot police in London.

RE: London Riots ..

Thanks, I am a mile away but ok but I am shocked that this is happening and sickened that the youth of today are so out of control. Sorry I am ranting a bit but this has upset me that the country is like this. The army needs to be brought in and no holds barred with dispersing these thugs. And parents need to be reprimanded if their kids are caught. I am now watching rioters in Clapham. There are no police there - there aren't enough police. The shops in Clapham are being looted at this moment.

RE: riots in London

Yes, thanks Vinny, I am only a mile away but it is safe here although police sirens have been going day and night round here since last Thursday evening when Mark Duggan died. Rioting is happening in a few areas in London and I believe the Bullring area of Birmingham too. This isn't about Mark Duggan but is about thuggery. It is nothing about poverty - it is about sheer violence for the sake of it. CCTV and stills will be scrutenised to get these thugs arrested. The Army needs to be called in from hopefully tomorrow. Summer holidays - kids are at a loss what to do, and thanks again for your concern Vinny. The underage rioters should have their parents reprimanded too. The youth of the UK are out of control now.

RE: What's It Like To Be A Navy SEAL

Yaaaayyyy, and I am leaving this Godforsaken UK to move there in December, but I am not going there for the men, well,
that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it rolling on the floor laughing

RE: riots in London

Yes a mile away from my home, and several within several areas of London and I believe about 100 miles away in Birmingham as well.

RE: London Riots ..

On Sky tv there is destruction in various areas, Croydon, Lewisham, as well as Hackney. Other cities in the UK are getting problems this evening too.

This is very serious and yes, the army should be called in because there is a huge amount of fear now and the Police's main task is to keep bystanders and citizens in shops and houses safe. The army need to be brought in and on standby for tomorrow.

RE: London Riots ..

They are out of control. They need as I posted somewhere today to have a compulsory apprenticeship or community service or such-like. They hang around with nothing to do but collect their Jobseekers Allowance and Britain is no longer Great. It is a laughing stock now the rest of world can see what our youth is like and we are hosting the Olympics in a year. What a joke! Sorry, I normally don't rant but I am thoroughly ashamed of this and to see what they are doing in my local vicinity. Hopefully the CCTV stills and footage will help get some of them arrested and I hope there is a hard crack-down and not just a slap on the wrist for them. Perhaps for the parents too if the yobs are underage as there are certainly young kids there too.

RE: London Riots ..

The Commissioner at Scotland Yard is imploring parents to contact their kids to get them off the streets. Lol, as if these thugs listen to parentsdoh

RE: What's It Like To Be A Navy SEAL

Hmm I wouldn't want to come across them on a dark night..... on the other hand a couple of hunky Number 3s would be tempting!!! heart wings

RE: London Riots ..

Ok, challenge time - what can we riot about? Me, I feel I have been unjustly treated by British Gas charging so much!

RE: London Riots ..

That's good!

RE: London Riots ..

I am not budging. All the buses have stopped, traffic diverted etc. Thanks VM for your concern teddybear

RE: London Riots ..

Never mind - you know what they say - location, location, location. I bet it's great when you try and pull, very impressive to know where you live!
