Black Friday extended...

Many stores have extended Black Friday to Cyber Saturday. Cyber Monday sales are extended to Cyber Tuesday. We're on a roll and I see special sales that should be extended all through the month of December.

The World Economic Forum cares about you!

I post stuff here to help expose what I think is wrong about Globalization. I believe in borders. If you wish to debate anything I post discuss it amongst yourselves or if no one else wants to engage your debate then discuss it among your inner voices. Feel free to post anything btw.

..... here we go

Speaking at the WEF, former head of the IMF's China division, Eswar Prasad: CBDC will be programmable, in a way that will enable governments to dictate how, when, where, on what and by whom they can be spent, including the imposition of expiry dates.

CBDCs are a totalitarian's wet dream, and would enable governments to centrally enforce tyrannical policies on an industrial scale—at the flick of a switch—without the need for human enforcement agents.

Not "up to date" with your injections? Exceeded your weekly carbon allowance? Ventured outside of your designated '15 minute' district? Oops, no money for you!

A Total Onslaught

I have nothing against Islam. It is the Jihadists that worry me. And those who think what is happening in Israel is something local and isolated, better have another think. It is part of something much bigger. professor

Israel only appears to be a hotbed because they are more successful against the Jihadists. But open your eyes and look around. You'll find them all over. To name just a few locations, I can start with countries like Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Congo, Kenya, Somalia and, not long ago, as far south as Mozambique. This list is not nearly complete. wow

Europe and the Americas only think they're safe. It's already sticking its head out in France. Belgium, Denmark and Sweden also had problems with these Jihadists while the USA had their hands full with Al Qaeda. We remember 911 all too well. very mad

On their own they appear as local and unrelated insurgencies but collectively they become a global catastrophe and I think those who don't see what's going on, don't want to see it. doh

Of course, I may be paranoid. I grew up in a country where we were spooked with all kinds of dangers. There were the black danger, the red danger, the yellow danger and any other conceivable danger but that does not mean that I'm wrong. As Adrian Monk said: "I may be wrong but I don't think so." dunno

Toast...

Last year, I blogged about a $10 toaster I bought and put it in the powder room (where the toilet was wrapped in plastic and not being used) only because there was a vent fan in the ceiling. The new appliance emitted a plastic smell that needed to be used a few times for the smell to go away. The kitchen is tiny and I don't often make toast so, months later, it's there next to the Waterpik.
A few days ago, I wanted to toast some sliced Italian bread. The bread was much wider than sandwich bread so I have to switch the slices to get both ends toasted. It's an acquired skill not to burn your fingers flipping the bread. The setting is 'just right' so I don't need to make any adjustments and actually get evenly toasted bread.
I started the toaster and my phone rang. It was a contractor with questions about a recent order that required 2 minutes for me to open a drawing to answer his question. The fan was on so I didn't smell anything, but when I hung up and when back to check, the room was filled with smoke and first part was severely burned.
What was strange is hidden in the ceiling, the vent pipe is connected to the other bathroom with a "T" fitting so both exhaust to the roof in the shared pipe. Somehow the smoke was filling the other bathroom too!
They are on either side of a hallway where I have a smoke alarm. I closed both bathroom doors and turned on the window fan. Thankfully the alarm didn't go off panicking my neighbors.
The bread was so charred there wasn't anything worth salvaging and I had to toast two more slices. The bathroom wreaked of burned (burnt if you're across the pond) for a few days and now all is well.

Speaking of toast. I see Donald Trump Jr. appeared in court for a second time. He and his father's attorneys were unable to explain how a Trump building listed with the Securities and Exchange Commission and architectural plans as 63 floors is advertised as 72 floors.

A few news services mentioned 'Trump is toast' and that they may want to consider getting new lawyers, as his team seems to continually blow up his defenses in his various legal disputes.

Some things that go together...

When I was a kid, it was peanut butter & jelly on white bread, coffee with cream, wine with cheese and crackers, rednecks and Confederate flags. Sure there were variances to those selections, but mostly they could be found together.
A generation ago, I predicted that tattoos being a fad would go out of fashion and no one would want one. How wrong was that observation?
Walk through the mall and you will both young and old with tattoos AND body piercings. I'm not sure of the connection. Maybe they were all reading National Geographic magazines when growing up.
Today at a red light was truck with lots of bumper stickers. Two of the largest stickers were Trump and guns.

Those never-ending webpages...

The internet is filling up with repetitive never-ending webpages. The example is Pinterest. Someone posts a page and links 30 other pages who in turn are linked to another 30 pages. Over and over again, so one photo appears on the internet several hundred times.
The same thing with X (Formerly Twitter that will always be Twitter) when someone says something stupid, 400 people copy it and it gets regurgitated no less than 2,000 times.

Something simple like a (wannabe) fashion model re-posting the same 10 photos on their Facebook page. Wasn't one standing by that expensive sports car enough? You think you're scrolling to the bottom of their page only to find you haven't... there's more and more. Go ahead, scroll down... there's lots more. It's never-ending.

This blog isn't a rant... instead it's a statement of fact. Saturation is everywhere and where we are headed doesn't look pretty.

Programmers have created programs that will scan your hard drive and let you know if a photo appears more than once so you have the opportunity of deleting the duplicates. The internet needs to apply the same thought.

Scrolling to the bottom of someone's page will then be possible.

I would move to New York City….

Or at least go visit every year during fall, just to get my hands on them yummy ginkgo biloba that can be found all over NYC in abundance.

I spent Thanksgiving with my son in NYC. My first trip to NYC and for him, the second. We arrived on Tuesday and the first thing that struck me as we got out from the subway station and walked to our hotel that was just two blocks away, the streets were lined with beautiful ginkgo biloba trees or commonly known as Maidenhair trees here in North America. Their light-green leaves turned gloriously golden in fall.

They are everywhere in the streets of New York!

Strawberry Fields should be called Ginkgo Fields instead grin

I decided to watch the Rockettes on my last night in NYC. On my way walking back to the hotel ( which took me less than 20 minutes), I stopped by the side of a church to collect the fallen ginkgo fruits by the pavement, produced by female ginkgo trees.

To the uninitiated, the pulp of the ginkgo fruit has been compared from rancid butter to dog excrement! uh oh laugh

It was cold and windy but it didn’t deter me from taking my gloves off and with my bad knees, bend ing over to collect them, one by one., with my bare hand. I spent about an hour and reluctantly pulled myself away and resumed my walk back to the hotel. Upon reaching the hotel, I discovered there were more fruits to be collected in front of the hotel and the nuts from those fruits were really “plumpy” and that made plumpy MiMi very happy! laugh

I put them in my carry-on bag and was keeping my fingers crossed that the double layers of plastic bags will contain the putrid smell and was hoping no leakage or whatsoever. I certainly do not want the smell to permeate through the whole aircraft cabin uh oh

Was washing them in the kitchen when Art suddenly walked in and started screaming, “What in the hell is THAT smell?!?!! Puke? Dead animal?!?

He went on, “What are you going to do with them?!?”
I answered, “Why, I eat them of course! I’ve been eating them all my life!” Feeling annoyed and went on to explain to him the health benefits of consuming ginkgo biloba. He was not impressed at all rolling on the floor laughing and made me promised I will get rid of the smell by tomorrow morning.

I lit several scented candles and spray the whole house with air freshener hoping to be ridden of the vile and foul smell help before Art wakes up.

Well, I’m too tired to think of other hacks and going to sleep now, thinking of the yummy dessert I’d be making with these nuts smitten

Pak gor yee mai fu chuk, my late maternal grandma used to make them every now and then. Can be consumed either hot or cold.

Hall with no Oates...

The other day, I read in music news that Daryl Hall has filed a lawsuit against his former musical partner John Oates and has asked the judge to issue a temporary restraining order. Documents were sealed and information was sketchy. This morning, more details came forward.

Why Daryl Hall obtained a restraining order against John Oates has been (partly) solved.
It’s now been revealed that Hall is attempting to block his longtime musical partner from selling his share in their joint venture to Primary Wave Music.
Hall is arguing that Oates' plan to sell off his share of a joint venture would violate the terms of a business agreement that Hall & Oates duo had forged.

The judge temporarily blocked the sale while legal proceedings and a previously initiated arbitration continue.

Primary Wave has already owned “significant interest” in Hall and Oates’ song catalog for more than 15 years. In a 2021 interview with Sky News, Hall alluded to disappointment with the sale of his back catalog.

Daryl's statement:
“Oh, in the early days, it got sold off for me and I didn’t get the money,” he said. In the same interview, he advised artists to retain their publishing rights, saying “all you have is that.”

Mike Portnoy is back with Dream Theater...

13 years ago, drummer Mike Portnoy at the top of his career, decided to leave the group Dream Theater. After dozens of exhaustive auditions, the band selected Mike Mangini to replace him who played on an impressive one-third of their studio albums.
A year ago some negotiations took place and Portnoy decided to return to the band he helped form.

That's a bitter shock to Mangini and he took the change diplomatically stating:

“I understand Dream Theater’s decision to get Mike Portnoy back at this time. As was said from day one, my place was not to fill all the roles that Mike held in the band. I was to play the drums in order to help the band carry on," Mangini humbly states, "My main role of keeping our live show working tightly on a nightly basis was an intense and rewarding experience."

Deeply appreciative of his time in the band, he continues, "Thankfully, I got to experience playing music with these iconic musicians, as well as some fun times laced with humor. I also really enjoyed spending lots of time with the crew. And then there’s the Grammy win, which was amazingly satisfying."

Bidding farewell, he concludes, "To the fans: thank you so much for being amazing to me. I cherish the pictures I have of you all losing your minds and having fun. Finally, I really love the band, crew and management and wish them and the entire organization all the best.”

Mike Mangini performed well, going far more than he would have without his 13 years with Dream Theater. His new worth is reported $10 million and that in itself is an amazing accomplishment for a musician.
Having heard and seen videos of both drummers, I have to admit Portnoy has the edge on him for technique and assertive style. I'm sure Mangini will soon continue his musical success with another supergroup. He deserves it.

I blogged about the Canadian band RUSH having lost their drummer to cancer, had no plans to reunite. I thought Portnoy would fit that role, but it's too late. Mangini would be next in line for the gig!
