Morón...

It was getting late and I decided to run to Publix grocery store for water and a few things. At the produce department, they were putting out 'tomatoes on the vine' so I had to get some. Watermelon, yeah... I'll take one. Peaches were actually picked at the right time and the price was right. Romaine lettuce was twice the price as Walmart, so I passed on that.
Meat department... ground chicken was on sale. Had to get one package. Bottom round roast was less than the thin cut slices, I didn't have my banker's cellphone number to get a loan approval, so I only bought a small piece.
Tomato sauce without sugar... 4 cans and some tomato paste.
Yeah, I was there for water. 2 gallons and some assorted 2-liter bottles of flavored seltzer water. Coca-Cola 2-liter products are now $3.49. I bought gas on Friday, it was $3.39 per gallon. I'm not sure how they justify soda to be nearly double to gasoline.

I had to stop at the bakery and eye all the things I shouldn't eat.
English muffins were 'buy one, get one free' so I had to do that.
Last into the cart was the Morón.

Specifically, it's Torticas de Morón also known as Cuban shortbread cookies.
Basically, the first two ingredients are flour and sugar. Not that I needed any sugar in my diet, but they are awesome.

So, if someone calls you a moron, think of the Cuban confection... sweet.

That 'quick trip' was $75.

The crowd booed her for protesting a questionable call...

Two-time Olympian and two-time major tournament tennis champion Shuai Zhang was competing against Hungarian Amarissa Tóth in the WTA Tour's Hungarian Grand Prix.
(Women's Tennis Association)

Playing on clay, Zhang hit a shot that kicked up chalk on a line that would have given her a point. The judge ruled it out, the umpire agreed, but they looked at themselves as to question the decision. When Zhang appealed to the judges to take a closer look, her opponent Tóth walked over to the spot and wiped away the mark with her foot and giggled.

Shaken by the judges decision and Amarissa covering the mark, Zhang decided to pull out of the match. She received boos from the crowd and mocked by her actions.

It's been years since I followed tennis, but I believe with a questionable call like that, the judge should have given her a replay.

In the 1970's John McEnroe would have insisted it!

Truths about profiles on CS

How much truth is written in a profile?
Here are a few untruths I have found.
One guy, seems to unage with time. When I first spoke to him on cam, his age on CS was 76.
Looking at him, he looked like 80 and I asked him, yes, he was 80 but “felt” younger!
At the moment, a few years later – he is now 74 (!)

Another one, I think he got his age right, but not his marital status. The profile is not a new one and marital status is given as divorced. Just before we were supposed to meet, I get a whatsapp from him saying his wife has just arrived at their house so he wished to postpone are first meeting. I blocked him, only forgot to block “telegram” too. A few weeks later he begs to continue our getting to know each other and that they are in the process of divorcing (she is 82!).
Finally, we arrange a meeting for a few days later, get a whatapp saying sorry, met another woman on CS and will not be meeting me.
Poor her – lucky me!

Thinking about all strange profiles on CS - the, mostly younger guys, showing the most hideous profile photos.
To me it shows their "intelligence" nothing more. A good "start" on CS- or not?

Patriot...

Some of you may remember the guy who propped his feet up on Nancy Pelosi's desk on the January 6th insurrection. He had his day in court yesterday and was found guilty on all eight counts in his indictment, including felony charges of civil disorder and obstruction of an official proceeding.
The jury deliberated for approximately two hours before unanimously convicting Richard “Bigo” Barnett of the charges.

Sentencing for Barnett is scheduled on May 3rd.

Outside the courthouse after the verdict, Barnett vowed to appeal his conviction, calling it an "injustice.” He noted that the judge had rejected his request to move his trial from Washington to Arkansas.

“This is not a jury of my peers,” he told reporters.
Yes Richard... it wasn't your peers because they were all arrested too!

Digital Dentist...

I've changed dentists a few times over the years and the last was referred by my insurance agent because she's in my network. This came around the time of COVID. The price was right but the work was so-so. I preferred she was the only dentist in the office and each room was separate. Returned for a cleaning earlier this year, I did a deep cleaning procedure and had to pay out of pocket because she claimed the insurance company wasn't paying her invoices. She would reimburse me when she got paid from the insurance company.
As a followup, I called the insurance company to inquire about the reimbursement and they said that dentist was no longer in network. They should have notified me prior to their service they had a status change... instead, I was lied to believing I would be reimbursed after she resolved her billing issues.
Due to the unusual circumstance, the insurance company filed a grievance report and will notify me of the outcome.
I'm back to a previous dentist who I've used a few times, leaving because I didn't like the corporate environment with several dentists, hygienists and staff running around in a 'corral-like' environment. Okay, the COVID fear subsided and the only ones wearing masks are the dentist and assistant.
I went for a cleaning last week and x-rays revealed some decay in a tooth that has a large composite filling on both sides. Crown was recommended. I have a VIP insurance plan with them so the dental work is discounted. Today was the day for preparation of a crown. I was in the chair for 90 minutes and the procedure this time used a digital 3D scanner and not the 'old fashion' rubberized casting that gets mailed to the laboratory for creation of the crown.
It's quickly becoming the standard for dentistry and coincidence, one of my clients works at a dental lab telling me how much better crowns that are cut using the digital technology fit.
I'll know in less than 10 days when I go back for the final.

You can quote me on this:
"The only pain you should feel from a dentist is paying the bill when services are rendered!"

Patriots: Mark Ponder and others...

Mark was given 63 months of prison for his actions in the January 6th insurrection on the Capitol. He's tied with Robert Scott Palmer who pleaded guilty to taking part in the siege.

What did they both have in common? Believing the election was stolen.

Smile Mark, you're on candid camera.

I've seen some videos of people who actually believe the event never took place!

It ain't sushi anymore...

One of the best Sushi restaurants in Boca Raton closed their doors at the beginning of COVID. They had 3 locations (West Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton) and only the Fort Lauderdale store is still open for business.

Many of my coworkers used to go there for lunch on Friday and always the food was fresh. It's was a buffet style all-you-can-eat lunch or dinner with a grill. The selections for dinner were more, like steamed crab legs and baked salmon, but the price was justifiably higher.

I knew some of the waitresses had scattered to different businesses, many were unrelated to food service. There is another sushi restaurant in East Boca Raton that I go to now that gets so busy you have to leave your name with the greeter and they would call you when a table was available. Always a wait, often 20 to 30 minutes. Much higher prices nowadays but an awesome selection. One waitress from the other place relocated there and it's nice when she's my server.

Plans are to go there tomorrow in the afternoon after the lunch crowd dissipates and before they close to setup for dinner. I'll skip lunch and dinner tomorrow knowing the one meal could be 10,000 calories!
Okay, I'm exaggerating, it's more like 5,000 calories.

Last night, I passed the old sushi place and the building had been repainted, new lighting and the parking lot was re-striped. The sign on the front read: CURALEAF
I Googled the name to find they are a Marijuana Dispensary.

It ain't sushi anymore...

I am beginning to become a pretty decent cook!

I remember many, many, MANY years ago, the only thing I could cook was frozen pizzas, ready-made lasagna and pasta. I then moved overseas, and then I was forced to learn how to make food, because if I didn't do that, I would starve. Either that or eat out.

Fast forward to now. I run my own food blog, which I started back in April, so it only has 14 followers, but still - it's my own food blog!

On that, I post a variety of recipes and pictures of the food I make.

My first really big thing I made was this

It's a triple cheeseburger, with six rashers of bacon, two on top of each layer of cheese. It was VERY wet and drippy. The juice from the meat combined with the fat from the bacon and the cheese made me feel VERY American (yeeyee). It was glorious!

I then began to make more quick things - like toasties. Instead of ham, I used pepperoni, which made it taste like a pepperoni pizza, in a way.

Today, I made this

The patties are a blend of pork and bacon, with some bbq seasoning mixed in. It was great! I need more of those, so I am buying more tomorrow. The best part is that the patties were 15 Danish kroner for the pair. 15 Danish kroner is $2.26. A bargain!

If and when I find someone, I will definitely try to learn to cook more elaborate meals. I would LOVE to be able to make a beef wellington!

Now I just need to find someone who wants to give me a chance..
