SMUGGLING

Old joke - I hate people who take drugs. Like Customs officials.

Smuggling is bad, smuggling affects the economy of your country, it's a naughty thing to do. It has also been a UK tradition since about 2 days after the first introduction of import tax, boats whisking back and forth across the Channel by dead of night, Customs officials hurriedly created, and a very quiet war has raged ever since.

I smuggle one thing - cigs. I've been caught once, and had 5 cartons confiscated very mad but on the whole I was lucky and my last few trips to the Continong have been to countries in the EU, where you can bring back as much as you are likely to need to turn your lungs into kippered flappy bits of cardboard. smoking

Since I was in Spain in March, and in Portugal in April, it's been a while since I had to buy at UK prices. My last carton had packets of 20 cigs, from Portugal, with the price pre-stamped on them, 4.20 euros, so the carton was 42 euros. That's Portuguese law, the price is set by the government across all brands. hug

So I bought this morning - 68 smackers for a carton of 10 packets.

Now guess how many cigs there are in each packet. Go on. Guess.

SEVENTEEN. very mad

So I guess I'm about to turn smuggler. That's just GREEDY, Britain. GREEDY.

stock market

I don't know much about the stock market...only what I have heard. I guess if I was not so lazy, I probably could look up in a second the answer to my first question here...versus taking 2 minutes or longer to ask you folks. laugh But, here it goes anyway. What moves the stock market...the value of it? Also, I wonder what would happen if the stock market took quick drop from the 30,000 mark...oh...let's say to the 8,000 mark. dunno

Cheaters always prosper...

The saying when I was a school boy was told: Cheaters never prosper. As I got older, I found it to be the opposite. If you want to get ahead in business, cut corners and cheat.
Depending on how greedy you are there comes a time when you can no longer hide shady dealings.

This afternoon in the news, I read:

Judge Arthur Engoron, ruling in a civil lawsuit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James, found that Trump and his company deceived banks, insurers and others by massively overvaluing his assets and exaggerating his net worth on paperwork used in making deals and securing loans.

The Trump Organization had been under investigation for more than a decade, but Trump while president was under a veil of protection. The veil is gone.

So it appears that cheaters can prosper until they get audited.
"Judge rules Trump inflated net worth, committed fraud, overvalued assets"

You knew this was coming... right?

Corporate Feudalism: The New Economy.

So, the very purpose a computer exists for a writer is going to cost $6 a month by subscription only.

Microsoft replaced DOS. The new disc operating system, the OS, became a saleable product rather than being the engine supplied with the shell. (unlike Apple OS, or even Linux). This led to the anti-monopoly hearings that brought Gates to Washington for a slap on the wrist before the less-government pro-business (anti-market) Republican legislature loosened regulations on business. MS bought Netscape, and killed it. MS bought WordPerfect/Corel, and killed it. The mentality that did away with DOS, its initial competitor had not changed.

Now you will get the (d)OS for free. But everything else is priced to you in perpetuity under nomenclature called services, a misnomer for manufacturing. Presumably to continue the practice of upgrades from releases, which becomes more Charlie than Beta at Alpha prices (in perpetuity). You are not going to buy an Alpha version for $6, lest you need it spelt out.

It used to be you could go to a store and buy an Alpha version of software you then owned – like Wordstar, or Lotus 123, or Corel Draw, or Spycraft: The Great Game, or Wizardry, or MS Office…. Copyright and patent law protected the OEM software manufacturer from competing pirates’ reverse engineering their own version of the product sold in China.

Now, Microsoft simply wants to become the multi-device OS platform for leased software. It becomes too clear for anyone paying attention to this company that MS is not the wisest use of your money unless you like to become a slave to consumption and/or dislike saving money. To me, this smacks of tithing and corporate feudalism and not healthy market competition.

Don't answer the phone...

There was a time I answered every call. My position was sales manager and I had to communicate with new people all the time. It was time consuming to listen to a message and return the call when my preference was to catch it when they were on the line.

In the last 5 years the number of bogus calls has increased tenfold. Extended warranty warnings in English and Spanish, I'm looking for a house in your neighborhood, my business is approved for a 6-figure low interest loan. An election year and I've received more than 100 calls and texts from people... right up until election day.

Unless I'm actually waiting for someone to return my call, I'm hesitant to answer any unknown incoming call. Most of the caller ID have names now and 'Scam Likely' is usually on the header, but some discount carriers don't use that system.

Most everyone I know rejects bogus calls.

When I receive a solicitation call, I block the number. What happens then is my phone doesn't ring but the call is automatically routed to my message box and I get notification there. The computer generated 'robo-calls' are recorded messages repeating the same BS over and over. Since they can spoof the number they are calling from my phone sees it as a new number and the call comes through.

Don't answer the phone... it's no one you want to talk to.

Hatred fear and misery

Go for it. You pays your money and you takes your choice.

Perfect world, not a single comment - but then there are so many other blogs catering to your needs, there don't need to be comments on this one. Don't make any.

Whats so bad about Russia ?

Since WW11 there has been propaganda about communism, why ?...so what if a country wants to be communists. We have no right to push democracy on to anyone, look at Libya and Iraq !

So why is it the US government are the only ones that shout about Russia ?...and the supposed threat they are to us.

Russia is not an aggressor, Russia has never been and colonized countries like that of the Uk, Spain or France, pillaging those countries over the past 5 centuries.

Can some one tell me what threat the Russians are ?...I am beginning to like Trump and his policies towards Russia.
