Don't answer the phone...

There was a time I answered every call. My position was sales manager and I had to communicate with new people all the time. It was time consuming to listen to a message and return the call when my preference was to catch it when they were on the line.

In the last 5 years the number of bogus calls has increased tenfold. Extended warranty warnings in English and Spanish, I'm looking for a house in your neighborhood, my business is approved for a 6-figure low interest loan. An election year and I've received more than 100 calls and texts from people... right up until election day.

Unless I'm actually waiting for someone to return my call, I'm hesitant to answer any unknown incoming call. Most of the caller ID have names now and 'Scam Likely' is usually on the header, but some discount carriers don't use that system.

Most everyone I know rejects bogus calls.

When I receive a solicitation call, I block the number. What happens then is my phone doesn't ring but the call is automatically routed to my message box and I get notification there. The computer generated 'robo-calls' are recorded messages repeating the same BS over and over. Since they can spoof the number they are calling from my phone sees it as a new number and the call comes through.

Don't answer the phone... it's no one you want to talk to.

I turn the ringer off, so I am not even disturbed.
I check my messages once per day.
I tell everyone "e-mail me instead".
I lead a totally stress-free life. thumbs up
Ignoring calls is a double-edged sword. Two weeks ago I received the call that I didn't recognize the number. It happened to be the plumber working on one of my jobs and he needed specific information.
I didn't answer, he didn't leave a message and called his boss who called me leaving a message. The whole episode lost about 15 minutes.
That's one of the problems with working for someone else.
I actually downloaded an App last week called 'Truecaller' because of similar problems. I'm using the Premium month to month option and it actually works. For me that is.
Jim, technically the plumber was working for me. He's an employee of the plumbing company we normally do business with. He wasn't part of the regular crew I've used in the past. Number not recognized and it was his fault for not leaving a message.

Lots of times I'm in client meetings and ignore calls unless I know who it is... and it's urgent to respond.

My voice messages get transcribed to readable text so I can glance over and see what the message is without stopping my meeting.
Luke, how does Truecaller work and is it only effective in South Africa?
Chat,
With more than 500 million downloads and still rated 4 stars plus I think its worth looking at in detail. Heaps of features. Im only using it for the past few days so not up to speed on all the features.
So true...

Nobody uses landline phones any more, except telemarketers.
The fun is to answer and take them for a fool.

Well if it's a recording then just hang up.
I'm on the 'Do Not Call List' but that doesn't seem to work.
Hesitant to press a (whatever) number the recording says to be removed as it may be an invitation they actually got a live person and added my number to other phone solicitors.
Yesterday, I did call the number back that showed on my caller ID. It said the number you have reached is not in service at this time....certainly is annoying.
gone... those numbers are often spoofed.

I'm usually getting 2-3 'extended warrantee' calls a day and many have the same prefix that at one time was allocated to cellular.
