The exposed portion of the Earth's crust that is now Scotland was once part of the North American landmass. Many millions of years ago, it broke away and drifted east, the Atlantic Ocean opening up behind it. It eventually bumped into Europe, where it has remained stuck fast ever since. All those Scots who emigrated to the United State in the 19th and 20th centuries could be thought of as returning to the old country.
In one of my books - "Understand Scottish History" by David Allen, he writesabout the early Picts, Angles in the south and east and other distinct populations of gaelic speakers with strong links to Ireland - and says that the people from Ireland migrated to Scotland....
this excerpt about Irish migrating into Scotland not the other way around.
If the traditional story of migration as a people from Ireland is literally true, the Scots may at first perhaps have been more interested in raiding and exploring than in settling and exploiting the country they would eventually dominate. But finding it agreeable and profitable, they would soon have realized the benefit of coming in numbers and putting down roots. Yet there are aspects of the imagration story that do not ring true. For example we know that there had been constant cultural and economic traffic between the northernmost parts of Ireland and the western most parts of Scotland from the early times.
I don't know - we might have to have a conversation with scientists that study bacteria and viruses. They are certainly new diseases that crop up - that just get created -
I also understand we have trillions of diverse bacteria in our stomaches that are so beneficial to our human survival - and some new things get created all the time - like when tigers and lions mate - or cross species.
I perhaps suggest that the facts support that we humans do get comfort from god. In our hours of need, we can get comfort in our beliefs. I think that is a fact.
like the christians that went off to the crusades and planted themselves in Ottoman territory and Jerusalem and removed the people there and disenfranchised them. Or like the vikings .... in Ireland and Scotland or like Americans with the Native Americans, or the Spanish with the Aztecs in Mexico, or ......
Like the... (fill in the name of any country)____________ planted immigrants into ________ and native people were removed and disenfranchised
I read somewhere that most men cry for their mommy. I didn't mean that to be just a flippant response, but to make the point in support of some of the older wiccan religious thoughts and ideologies. Mother earth, goddesses etc.
interest point - except we humans are predominately the only species on the planet to communicate in symbolic languages. I am sure the tribes and supporters of this group would not like the link in a woman's symbol .... however, maybe they would?
We really are almost out of it in the most significant way - as our leaders agreed. This is the leaders of the country of Iraq to solve - and we should very carefully consider our financial support or endorsements.
Clicking away, clicking away - he's not bad for a stereotypical nerd or geek, although that tartan style pants might be a irish plaid or .... my sisters'
I don't think it is such a clear cut leap from oil+religion anymore
At one time the big to-do was that "communism" taking over the world and the west was very much against that "threat" -
Now groups get lumped into violent terrorist religious extremist with an anti west. They are very dangerous - yet we give them a name and they rally behind it.
Each country seems to spawn it's own organized terrorists groups and they appear to have developed from other countries ideologies. Is it right to call them terrorists truly or just demote them to criminal organizations and criminal acts using some political justification?
I haven't figured out how to lure some Scottish gentleman over here yet? So tru, thought of visiting MiamI, we have hot, hot tropical climate, sandy beaches, entertainment galore, and traffic and crime (she suddenly realizes the last two items were said in an outloud voice)
RE: New Kiss or Pass :)
