I generalized. I think I am functional, productive and lovable too - and perhaps it is changing in attitudes because the majority of us are the baby boomers and great generation.
Remember the saying "don't trust someone over 30"....?
I think each country must come into it's own identity and take pride in it.
Historically, America, a relatively new country only 238 years old or so....learned that by their brightest future was in giving strength to their weakest members. It grew out of violence, ingenuity, desire to control its own destiny, access to resources, pioneer spirit, and learning to accept into society those from everywhere else. It has not been easy, nor is it over.
But America's path to how it works out this "egalitarian society", is not the path by other nations. Each must take into consideration, its own history, culture, and members in the society.
It's alright Mnowsa that you have just always view me as an funny, creative, delightful, intellectual equal.... it's only because we are not in the same country or area..... and you are not in my age group or living in Scotland.....
It's tough for some women and men in other parts of the world.
The whole different changes of our bodies over time as we age.... we are sold a bill of goods - the drug companies tell us that there is something wrong with our bodies to sell us a "cure" -
I think in a lot of places in the world growing old is not a terrible thing because there is respect for the old. However, here in America becoming an old women is often considered becoming less in society.

or is it a love story?
